Gannon wrote:Wow, I really don't think I'm worthy of the Member of the Month, I have only just got back and have contributed nada yet. I am however deeply honoured. This is an amazing forum, full of amazing members, and there are no words to describe how happy I am to be back and a part of it. Thankyou everybody. I shall endeavour to live up to this prestigious award.

DATo, I am getting sick of your posts. Every time I read one, I laugh so hard that I cough up my coffee. Please try to tone down your jokes, or maybe I should just stop drinking coffee before reading them. :)

Fran, I do think that a toga party is a great idea, we may even dedicate it to Colleen. :)

Anyway I am off to finish reading Anna Karenina. Once again my heartfelt thanks. :)

Congratulations Gannon. I haven't spent time at the Online Pub or Smuggler's Inn - now I feel I am missing out on all the excitement. :)

As a previous Member of the Month, I fully expect you to attend to the annual get-together where there will be eating, drinking, dancing, and drunken fights. :saberduel1:

Please bring along a lampshade as some people prefer dancing with a lampshade on their head. Can I check you off as bringing Bailey's Irish Cream in honor of your March award?

Congratulations, Gannon! It seems like you have made an impression on the members that were here before, and I'm glad you were welcomed back as a MOTM!

Now, I do agree with DATo. You have got to choose something that associates with your month. Personally, I like what DATo has said about combining several into one festive attire. If I'm not mistaken, this attire (and singing in this case) must be worn (and done) the entire month, so make sure it's good!

Ok, as anyone who knows me, knows that "Ancient Rome" is my thing. So that will be the subject for my month. The Romans loved to party and had many festivals that lasted for days and even weeks. For March we shall all don our togas (or cuirass and helm) and feast and drink. Wine will flow (beer for the gauls) and for the bloodthirsty maybe some gladiatorial games. For the less belligerent there will be discussions on the great philosophers. For those of you who don't have a toga floating around a simple white sheet will suffice.

During this month I will be trying to convert anybody I can into reading the "Masters of Rome" series written by the late and great Colleen McCullough. Imho, the series is the best Roman historical fiction ever written. It's a very long series but well worth the read. If anybody is interested in Roman historical fiction and wants to get an idea of what is available out there, feel free to PM me and I will gladly recommend some titles and authors.

Well as Caesar said just before he crossed the Rubicon, "The Die is cast." :)

Except for the wine or beer, I am in! It sounds like it will be a very interesting month. 8)

I agree with rssllue and Gravy!

Also, that video that you found, DATo, is hilarious! Good thing I wasn't drinking anything while I was watching otherwise I'd be like Carla Hurst-Chandler! :lol2:

You know something, it never occurred to me before but the month of March is quite significant in Roman history. March 15 was the day that Caesar was killed - The Ides of March.

Yes indeed, I was hoping nobody would notice that. Very ominous. What's interesting is that he was all ready to invade Parthia to avenge and recover the "eagles" that Marcus Crassus lost on his tragic invasion attempt. With Caesars track record there is a high probability that he could have defeated Rome's ancient enemy and who knows what he would have done, or where he would of gone from there. His assassination shaped the modern world.

But the Ides pale into insignificant when you consider the much, much more significant event that shook the known world on March 12th ......... MY BIRTHDAY :lol2: :lol2:

Ominous? Not a bit of it! The implications are obvious. Fran must postpone the cutting of her birthday cake till March 15th when we shall all meet here at the forum (the "forum" - how Romanesque) and each in turn plunge a dagger into her birthday cake to cut ourselves a piece. We will have B'day cake and coffee .... AND .... for entertainment I will tickle Carla Hurst-Chandler as she drinks her coffee and we can all experience the excitement of watching her blow coffee out her nose [:- )

Not sure about Carla's party piece ... I might need to build a vomitorium!

I'm studying this link closely & organising a legion so I can launch an invasion of the linen cabinet :scared-eek:
