There are always those who want to be different, and when something they like becomes mainstream, they get mad. :lol2:

In my opinion, the popularity of K-pop is neither inherently good nor bad. It is what it is, a reflection of the current state of the entertainment industry and the preferences of the global audience.

I started listening to K-pop when I was in junior high and before it had hit mainstream media, I loved it. The vibes are totally different and I enjoyed learning about a new genre and culture. However, when I was in HS, it took off and became a worldwide obsession. In my honest opinion, I think it's fine that so many people are now introduced to this cool side of the world and they are learning about a culture totally different than their own, however, the crazy fan groups have become a problem. To enjoy and love something is one thing, but to threaten and insult someone because their bias is different from yours or don't like a certain group is something else entirely and not healthy at all. Absolutely enjoy the music and the groups, but keep it fun and light-hearted so everyone can enjoy it, including your favourite artist.

I like some kpop songs but mostly, I don't understand how it got to be as big as it is. Not going to say kpop artists don't deserve their success, because they're plenty talented - I just don't get all the hype, honestly. Maybe I haven't found the right group yet.

the increased popularity has brought K-pop to a global audience, allowing more people to enjoy and appreciate the genre. It's also provided opportunities for many talented artists who might not have had a chance otherwise. On the other hand, the industry can be harsh and competitive, with some groups and artists getting lost in the shuffle or feeling immense pressure to stand out.

I never heard of them in my life until about two months ago when my friend‘s daughter mentioned who they were. And then played me a song. I’m not a fan.

Although many people wouldn't agree with me on this, but personally I think Kpop deserves the fame. Kpop songs come in a variety of genres from hip-hop to jazz and so much more. Each artist and band has their own style and I appreciate that. There is a Kpop song for every situation. The artists have their own unique way of expressing themselves. Kpop brings joy to millions around the world and to be honest there is no problem with Kpop, it's just toxic people who hate on idols for no reason and accuse them of false things, spreading false rumors. Like Sunghoon from Enhypen is being hated for no reason. People call him stiff, ugly and so much more without thinking about how much internal pain they are causing him. People also spread rumors about idols such as rumors spread about Jungwon and Winter. People should honestly stop being involved in idol's personal lives and let them live for once. There are so many groundbreaking and iconic kpop songs by groups like Stray-Kids, Enhypen, Txt, Ateez, Itzy, Aespa and so many more. New groups such as TWS, P1Harmony, Babymonster and many more are doing awesome. I think toxic people should back off and stop hating unneccessarily while others should support kpop. If you don't want to support them or don't like them, that's alright, everyone has their own music taste and kpop isn't for everyone. But if you don't like it, don't hate it and let others have their own opinion for once.

I'm usually not a fan of the "it's popular, now it's bad" narrative overall; I think increased exposure and availability is, on the whole, a good thing for subcultures, genres, etc. because it means more accessibility and variety! As far as K-pop specifically I don't have any strong opinions; my roommate is a huge fan of the genre but it isn't really my thing.

I view it as a good thing because it motivates people to explore music they might not have considered otherwise.
