Non English Music

Post by leareiler »

I like exploring music beyond the English language, it's a good way to help learn a new language or just find some really good songs. Currently I listen to a lot of French music, like Indie French Pop and some older French songs (like Edith Piaf of course).

Do you have any non-english artists that you enjoy? Or just single songs that you like that are in a different language?

Yes! I enjoy Super Junior songs, especially their ballads. I also love a lot of Korean OSTs I enjoy since I'm a big fan of ballads.

Otava Yö is an incredible Russian band and their music is sooo good, as well as Vek.
Also, Herr Mannelig is a Swedish folk ballad which is so beautiful, you can also find it sung in English by Brian Key.

I discovered a Japanese band way back years ago. They're called Galileo Galilei and their music is similar to the sound of Two Door Cinema Club. Múm is also a nice Icelandic experimental band. :) Their music is great for writing or reading.

I actually sing many songs that are in Spanish. Some of my favorite bands and artists that sing in Spanish are Los Lonely Boys, Del Castillo, Gypsy Kings, and The Night Mothers. I also sing some of Linda Ronstadt's songs in both Spanish and Cajun French.

I have none. Would be fun to listen to some without prior knowledge of the language though.

I like some Korean and Chinese songs. When you like songs, language won't matter.

I only did basic french classes in high school, so needless to say my french is terrible. However, I seem to really enjoy french artists in a variety of genres. I think it's just the way that the music is expressed, it seems to transcend language barriers.

Hi there, I am Indian, and Hindi is our national language. Songs have been a pretty big part of India. There are always 3-4 songs in a movie. I like old Hindi songs more than the new ones, though, so if you get a chance, give it a try.

Esmahan is a classic Syrian-Egyptian singer, and her songs are phenomenal. You do not really need to know what she is saying in order to feel the emotions conveyed in her singing.

If you’re in for something eerie, try to listen to “Delubyo” by Unique Salonga.

The title itself means “catastrophe” and some say that the song is inspired by an actual fire disaster in a disco. Some snippets of someone screaming, people laughing, and a priest giving his sermon can give a creepy effect. There’s even a reverse track!

By the way, the whole song is in Filipino if you are wondering 😁

Despite being half Spanish myself, I don't like Spanish music, it generally makes my skin crawl. I do love french music though, Papaoutai is one of my favourite songs. I find African music to be really enjoyable too.
