Count The Bounty

You scrape me clean right off of yer fingers
There ya go watch spirallin' down the drain
Bountiful residuals just lingers
No side steppin' unavoidable pain

Ya circle menacingly 'round wagons
Homestead homefires burn comfort crying child
Ya drink up abandon last of flagons
Barn sour field sour horses still runnin' wild

Ya ooze in filth n' stench of skyscrapers
Ya wistfully dream penthouse glass towers
Put up formidable front hide capers
Fluctuate 'tween love petals of flowers

In all confidence slotted discs will stop
But spins stir up whirlwind still reapin' crop.

(Sonnet: a-b a-b a-b a-a 10 syllable lines)

Oh sonnets... I first interacted with this category of poems in my 2nd year class in the university, when we had to analyse Shakespeare's Sonnet 14.
Bet on Me!

Kanda_theGreat-
Thx 4 ur reply & sharing ur exp. with sonnet form.
I find sonnets somewhat limiting in ability to gush fully in self expression, albeit challenging to adhere to form. DRMF

I first encountered a sonnet in my 10th grade: 'Death Be Not Proud' by John Donne.
Can give it a try, it was quite interesting.

nutshell_review- thx 4 sharing/pointing me to JD's sonnet. I like it a lot, is right up my alley-tho' many would wanna keep subject on the back 40. Found out were two John Donne's, one quilling romanticism, the other St. Anglican on the metaphysical nature: I caught in his sonnet(X) more elaborate rhyme scheme, tho' givin' death it's creds, also brims in hope and eternal life, much like Paul in 1Corinth. 15, "grave, where is thy sting/defeat?", "death is swallowed up in victory!"
