I have come across so many groups claiming to teach poetry so as to make you a great poet. However, I believe poetry is an innate talent just waiting to be exploited. What are your views and thoughts?

Most people believe poetry is an inborn talent but it sometimes comes from being taught the elements components and their structure.

In my view poetry is an inborn talent and no matter how one is taught they'll not be as good as a born poet

Poetry for the writer comes from ones experiences and everyday livelihood. Its interpretation to the reader comes from the "relatability" of the content and emotional effect it has on them.

Poetry is a talent. It's not something you can easily do, like gene's past on from a mother or a father you are born into it. Talent is so misconstrued in today's world that we forget the fact its not something that can be paid for.

I believe poetry is an expression of one's deepest thoughts, emotions and feelings. You cannot teach that. It has to come from within.

Poetry is talent but talent is wasted if it's isn't exercised.
I do believe it is also taught, but whether you master the art of putting a certain emotion on paper depends on how well you've acquired poetry.

Most likely a little bit of both. I guess it can be learned through reading poetry and getting an idea of what sounds good. But I listen to a lot of music, and I still cannot write good poetry if my life depended on it. I think it has a lot to do with how good one is with words too. I am not great with words, but when it comes to music, visual arts and cooking, I have a natural talent. So I think its both intuition and practice.

I think poetry is an innate talent, no matter how much book you have read but if you are not good at words your poetry will not be as good as the one with an innate talent. And lastly to make a poetry you have to be genuine.

Poetry is definitely a talent, but with the proper training, it can be honest into even greater heights. I was never trained in poetry, but often found words just coming to me and needing to put them down on paper.

If you are observant, passionate, emotional, empathetic and sensitive enough you can be taught poetry.

Though it can be learned but,I consider it a natural talent.

I can't pin point if it's a art or talent . I would say it's a mixture of both contents. Some may been born with this natural talent. Some may write them through their journey and emotions. I would say both in one line if can " Writing poetry is a art , expressing it in beautiful words is talent'.

In a way it is a learnt art. The more you practice and write, the better your work gets. It’s as simple as that. However, you need to have a certain way with words to get your massage across. As far as I know, that’s talent.

Poetry goes hand in hand with creativity. So if you are born creative,then you will most likely be a good poet.
