When I was in the 5th grade, one of my poems' was published. Anybody else have published poetry?

I am working on having a poetry book published

Not poetry, but in grade 8, I had a short story published.

Back when Poetry Library published their anthologies every year I had one published, around 1996 or so. I've just recently published my first collection of poetry though.

My sixth grade teacher tried to get me to publish one of the poems I wrote for an assignment. I, of course, regret the decision I made then not to take her acclaim of my work to heart... just a little bit. I've changed my style and changed it again over the years, but I sometimes find myself going back to my old stuff and thinking, "Hm... Maybe I should have stuck with the old way..." Ever feel that way?

I'm too self-deprecating to submit anything. One day though, I hope to be published. Working on a few poems that have some potential. Anything bigger than my campus literary magazine terrifies me.

Nah, don't be scared! Every writer has a wall of rejection letters from their early days. I look forward to decorating mine... with masks, graffiti, and lights!!!

Yeah, I had a poem book complete in 5 grade and now a complete novel set to publish!

Hello, my name is Sheldon Hollis. I was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. September 1, 1993 is when an artists was born. I am an author, poet, and screen writer. My dream is to cement a legacy that will live on forever. But I know to cement a legacy you must first blueprint your legacy. In life nothing comes easy but you should want it to be that way. If there were no road blocks, what story would you have to tell? How would history remember you. Every day, when I wake up, I think about my legacy. I wonder, sometimes, how people will remember me. To create a legacy, you have to first create a blueprint. And when you're done creating your blueprint, you start sculpting out your legacy. This journey will be long but I know this journey will pay off. Legacy is hard to achieve but I know my legacy will be remembered.

Beyond the vast 100s of chap books I have produced and actually sold (alright just a few hundreds (but I didn't really work at it)), you can find samples of my work (I think two works) in the 1997 anthology "Sounds of a City" by Haba Na Haba Publishing, Philadelphia, PA.

Hey, I just looked at it to get the copyright date and publisher and I see for the first time I received a credit in the acknowledgements - Thanx!

"Perfect bound" - you know, has a spine and all!

Back to my first sentence - if you want to be published not just by a lucky break WORK AT IT. If I had printed more books I would have sold more books - that means more people would have read my writing. If I had ever submitted any works to anyone without being asked to do so, I might have more published credits.

I cannot stress enough - WORK AT IT! Don't be a lazy poet.
