Reading. My attention can waver when I listen to stuff but when I read, I'm fully immersed in what's going on

I prefer reading as it forces me to pay attention. When I listen sometimes my brain will turn off the sound which makes it hard to follow a plot. I like listening to stories that I know well, it’s comforting in the background and if I fall asleep or get distracted I can usually pick it up and understand where I am in the story and what happened. I also find comfort in the smell and feel of books that I just don’t feel when listening to stories.

A difficult question. A good audiobook narrator, with a distinctive voice, strong empathy, and the ability to bring characters and settings to life, can sometimes give me even greater pleasure than reading the book myself. It depends on the genre, my affection for the material, and my mood. It's particularly exciting when I devour a book or audiobook and then compare it with its counterpart. A book that I had to slog through, where the creative flow of imagination is interrupted and turns into a strenuous effort, can become exciting with a correspondingly talented narrator. On the other hand, a good book that leaves me with a feeling of sadness and longing when finished, because it's now over, cannot be enhanced by an audiobook.

Reading anytime. I believe listening means that you're trying to double-task which can make one not fully invested in the book (unless you're visually impaired anyway).
When I want to read, I create time for it and sink between the words splattered on the book!

Reading when it is books, but listening when it is music. As for poetry, either is fine.

I would also like to put a comment here, as I have just started listening to books. Sometimes, I keep the audiobook on and read along. I would say that this technique also works really well!
The disappearance of the word "I am" is indeed the highest happiness! :)
