As a lot major in college I took several classes in poetry: Shakespeare, Romantic Era, and American poets. I’m even related to Emerson. I think poets from all eras have their strong and weak points. But I’d be interested to know who your most and least favorite poets are, and why.
My least favorite is Emily Dickinson. Anyone can throw out a quatrain with simple rhymes, and almost every single one can be sung to the tune of “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” (Once I learned that, I have to sing them all).
I would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite, but two came immediately to mind (sorry, cousin Ralph): Robert Frost -“Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the road less travelled by
And that has made all the difference. “

And , heaven help me, Hamlet’s soliloquy:
“To sleep, perchance to dream—aye, there’s the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come?”

i do not have a particular ranking on poets since i am not that great of a fan..i just read whenever i can and not really focusing much on the stuff

I really enjoy the work of Charles Bukowski. I don't necessarily read a lot of poetry but I find myself sometimes googling his poems and reading them for relaxation. He has a very raw, yet romantic view of the world and I appreciate it very much.
Another poet I might recommend is Nichita Stanescu, a Romanian poet from my homeland. Although he wrote in romanian, you can easily find many translations available online.

Here are a few verses of his poetry:

"Tell me, if I caught you one day
and kissed the sole of your foot,
wouldn't you limp a little then,

Most favorites: Emily Dickinson, Davey Jones, Jim Morrison, and Professor Laura Lee Crumley (my aunt )

Least favorite: Billy Nardozzi. His poems just seem very bland to me.

Favorite poets: Emily Dickinson, Shakespeare and Edgar Alan Poe.
Overrated poets (they are not terrible but not that good): Ted Hughes, Rupi Kaur and Bukowski (sorry corinaelena ).

My favorite would have to be Sylvia Plath:

"A cleft in your chin instead of your foot
But no less a devil for that,"

I love how emotional her writing is. I think it is beautiful the way she can turn a simple paper cut into a wasteland of raw imagery. I even have this particular quote tattooed!

I think my least favorite would have to be William Carlos Williams. I feel like the whole point of poetry is to convey a message, right? So what kind of message can I get from an 16-word poem about a wheelbarrow next to some chickens? I just don't understand it.

Invictus is my favorite poem. It is powerful and makes me feel like I can endure through anything. That poem has gotten me through some tough times.

I love Robert Frost. Desert Places is one of my favourite works despite the lonely feel of it.

William Wordsworth has been my favorite poet for a long time.

My favorite is easy -- Robert Frost. I also appreciate Emily Dickinson. Her poetry form may be simple, but it's a lot harder to produce something meaningful in those simple, rhymed forms than most people realize. And she really gets a message across. There are no poets whose works I totally dislike. I try to keep an open mind.

I have so many favourite poets that it’s hard to pick one. But when it comes to least favourite, I think it would be Rupi Kaur. I don’t feel like her work is really poetry, they are just random thoughts (not too unique either).

Robert Frost, Tennyson, Shakespeare, Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Alice Oswald, Emily Dickinson, David Constantine, Alison Fell. They all amaze me. I saw a performance of Alice Oswald's latest long narrative poem and she was electric. I've never been so shaken to the core.
