Old poems republished

Post by StephenKingman »

For any members interested in quality poems, the book "Soundings" has been republished after a somewhat troubled history: It was the standard poem book for the Leaving Cert English syllabus from 1969 right up to 2000. It features works from the likes of WB Yeats and TS Eliot, i was too much of an impatient brat to appreciate the book back in my teens but after leafing through a few poems the other day i feel its only right to expose this book again and hopefully it will get a second chance...

Sadly not available on Amazon but if you have eBay or irish relatives then hound them down!

Saw it in Eason's ... love the way they have the cover kinda battered - very like my copy was way back when.

Yeah they had it in the Book Centre in town, i think they could only make copies of one original so thats why they look a bit battered, but its still charming. I actually got my copy off my 42 yr od brother, and it was covered in handwritten notes from the guy that he got it from!

Isn't that the beauty of old books ... we'll miss all that if the ebooks take over

Not for many many decades hopefully Fran, the charm of old books is still very much alive and well, especially with a book of poems where notes about themes and interpretations make you reflect a bit more.
