1. What made you start writing?
I was a Liberal Arts major in college followed by 40 fruitful years in a series of healthcare services enterprises where I ran the sales, marketing and customer-facing functions.
2. What does your writing environment look like?
I live in Laguna Beach and my 'office' looks out on our walled backyard which is graced with Bougainvillea, Italian Cypress, Olive and Melaleuca Trees.
3. Let's talk about your book Easy Marks. Why did you write a book about senior citizens who have been defrauded?
Simple answer... It happened to me. I felt very violated and stupid and I really needed to do something to get the incident behind me. Easy Marks is my third novel so I figured to write a book that you believe would be a just outcome for those who do these things.
4. The topics included in the book range from fraud to cooking styles. How did you decide which topics to cover?
I like to eat and drink wine and I don't care for people who take advantage of others for their own selfish motives.
5. The reviewer mentions all the mouthwatering Italian food. Why Italian?
We have been very fortunate to travel extensively in Europe and in my humble opinion, Italian cuisine is by far the best. It is always fresh and served with love and passion, particularly in Florence and all throughout Tuscany. If you haven't been, you should consider going.
6. Are Sal and Mona based on real-life people?
They are both amalgams of people I know and enjoy.
7. How pervasive do you think ageism is in the world right now?
Very. I am required to take a written exam to renew my driver's license because I am over 70. I have not had a ticket in 25 years and that was for going too fast in my BMW Z-3.... Go figure. Put on a gray wig and walk slowly into any store and observe how you are treated. Yes, we are slower, but we are quite a bit smarter than we were when we were your age.
8. What's next for you?
I'm in the middle of my fourth novel which involves lobster fishing, sunken treasure and drug running off the California Coast.
I like to end with fun questions.
9. What animal do you most want to be and why?
My dog. He is pampered, loved and gets to swim in the Pacific every week.
10. What's your favorite scene?
When Sal is given a small non-speaking part out in his car and Colin is strong arming the scammers at their Tampa office.
11. What one piece of clothing can't you live without?
My OOFOS flip flops. (commercial plug)
