I think the author's choice of words were very graphic. It would only be suitable for a mature audience.

I agree those phrases are absolutely cringe worthy. ICK. An erotic scene (when done right!) can be incredible. . . even add to the story line! If it's appropriate for the voice and tone of the novel, an erotic scene helps with characterization as well. BUT, like I said, IF it adds to the story AND it's done right.

I agree with your comments. These were not erotic scenes. They were poorly represented, bumbled sex scenes.

But maybe that's just me. Maybe that would have made the book too adult. What did you think?
I just got to the part of "displaying his manly attributes". Like seriously?
It is what it is :tiphat:

I do agree that often erotic scenes end up sounding "cheesy" because of the phrases authors often use. But if you manage to find one that is well-written, it can add to the story.

The use of adult words may piss off some conservative readers and thus I think writers try considering such audiences in order to create a wider acceptance of their work.

I thought it was relevant to include the erotic scenes, but I also found the language cringe-worthy - I would have appreciated fewer euphemisms.

I’m glad to know there are scenes like this in the book because that helps me decide I’m not going to be reading it. Thanks for the discussion.

While it is possible to write sex scenes tastefully, it isn't exactly a common ability. I would rather have less detail and leave it to my imagination than to have a bunch of euphemisms. For it to be written in more adult language, I would have to be expecting it which I don't think would work with this book.

I've read plenty of books where the bad writing of sex scenes turned me off (haha!) and I skipped them. Or I stopped reading the series entirely... which is unfortunate. Hopefully the author grows and improves her writing of these erotic scenes to make them truly erotic instead of mildly racy.
As for you & your heart & the things you said & didn't say, she will remember them all when men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits. (Schmendrick the Magician)

I love erotic scenes but the language must be tasteful and engaging.

The most cringe-inducing part of the book, was the erotic parts .The Author Should have just used adult words instead.Aside from that, it's a great book.

I don't mind erotic scenes if they are integral to a story- and a well written scene may actually be enjoyable! However, sometimes the way the lines are written with too much euphemism can make the lines absurd, funny or even cringe-worthy worthy!

I don't mind a bit of erotica in my stories so long as it fits in with the story, but I've no time for authors who dance around scenes like that with pretty words. It's possible to write erotic scenes without being seedy about it ;)

I don't mind erotic scenes, especially if they are well written. But when they fail to catch my interest with silly euphemisms, I skip them.
