A book about life, friendship, and fishing is something you would often see in literary fiction. What you don't see often is the combination of four female friends or fishing! Excellent modern take!

This book about four women sharing a hobby of fly fishing sounds refreshing. There is a fairly wide age difference between them and they come from diverse backgrounds. This adds an interesting element to the story. When they rescue another woman from the river their group becomes five. It would no doubt be interesting to see how bonds grow between them.

I love stories about friendship. I've had a best friend since we were kids. I know I can always count on her even though we currently live in different states. Friendship is a bond that is generally taken for granted in books. It's refreshing to see a book so thoroughly supportive of that bond.

This is a story of how five women bond through an unfamiliar sport for women- fly fishing. Its a story about their relations bonding very easily despite their different backgrounds.

This book sounds like an interesting way to learn about fly fishing as it weaves a tale about five very different women who develop strong and supportive friendships. I like that each woman tells her perspective on fly fishing and friendship. Fly fishing sounds like an enjoyable way to experience nature as well.

Thank you DancingLady for your review of The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings. At first I thought this was just a book about fishing and I wasn't interested. But your review described the book as being more about the women's lives and relationships. This made it more appealing to me. I will try it out. Thanks again.

Despite your great review, I'm sorry to say that I couldn't read a book on fishing. My partner fishes and that's more than I can handle.

Even though the book talks about their deep relationships, I can't deal with the sports as a backdrop.
You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

A lovely tale about friendship. Four women from different backgrounds are united by the love of a sport. Throwing in a naked woman adds a little mystery to the whole story. Definitely the kind of story that you would see in a movie. Kudos!

In The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings, we instantly enter the world according to women. The narrative is charming, smooth and flowy. "There was no way not to notice him." The protagonist tells of the man in her life. "His dark creamy skin glowed against his white chef's coat." For the average reader, there is no way not to want to continue to read the rest of the story

The Reel Sisters tells a beautiful story of five different women, who passionately love the sport of fly fishing, and who bond over this sport. These five women who share a passion for the fly fishing sport and this passion binds them together.

This book will prove that women can get involved in fly-fishing sport as well. The book also tells us about the personal life of these friends as how one is looking for love while the another friend is struggling to keep up raising two kids. This book seems so good.

Following five women who are brought together and find themselves through fly fishing sounds like a unique combination. It's great to know that they have diverse backgrounds and different challenges. I love that they become a group of sisters who are there for each other. I can see how the catch and release part of fly fishing can be a bit much, but I'm glad it becomes a beautiful metaphor here. It's great to hear that this is more about friendships than fly fishing and that you found this encouraging and full of wisdom. Not sure if this is for me, but thank you for sharing!

I only read the opening pages of the sample, but I agree with you. It's clear that this is a beautiful book. Cummings has a strong narrative voice and her characters are clear, fully rounded, and "come off the page" (as my writing mentor always said). Beautiful prose. I can't wait to read it.

I would never have even considered this as an interesting subject for a story, but your review makes it sound intriguing. The catch and release issue bothers me too, but if the author made good use of it as a metaphor, then I guess it serves a nice purpose. I grew up with a regular rod and reel in hand, so this topic interests me as a plot. Thanks for such a great review of this one.
