Niphredil, I know what you mean and Kathy B, I feel exactly the same. I think real bookies count their books by bookshelves (piles, boxes, etc) not individual books and yes moving is a pain.

That's why I have a son, with lots of friends of the male persuasion.

Exactly I cant count my amount of books mine. But I can give you a story. When I change my home then I spend 5 hours to bring my books in new home. So I never and ever count my books. I just buy books and read book and keeping its to store....

Honestly, I don't know...too many for a bookshelf, too few for having a good literary knowledge!

I have a set of book shelves in my office/reading room totaling over 300 books. Always acquiring new ones to add to my TBR pile.

Back in May of 2010 the wifely woman bless her, took a number check, she works in a library and enjoys this sort of maniacal pastime, anyway, she reached 3,864 books, they cover most subjects, although the few story books count more in the classical type Dickens, Maupassant etc.... She is very indulgent with me and brings home relevant books for me when they come up for sale., biographies mainly. I know I have at least another 30 plus books since May and, another 19 for my birthday(December) and Christmas, book vouchers/tokens are also to be spent soon..... it has become all encompassing these days..!! I even read dictionaries.

Ive got about 300 paper books and a passel of e books. I knew I had a bunch of them but I wasnt sure how many until I copied them from my reader onto a stick and the total no. was over 12,000. I wont read that many in ten lifetimes, so Ive decided to go through them and s---can about 75 percent of them. Or more.

Yeah, a very dear friend of mine has hundreds of books on his electric doodad, he only wanted a couple to read on holiday but was given a disc with countless classics on it, he couldn't refuse it as he is book greedy like me, but, he is like a kid in a sweetshop, flying from one thing to another, totally undisciplined and not able to settle to one book.....

I started collecting E-books last year and I already have thousands!I love it because they take up very little room!! I've downloaded this free software called Calibre it will organize and manage your e-book library and download covers for your books and synopsis so you can easily choose what book you want to read next. I love it

Not sure exactly, but somewhere between 1500 and a couple thou. I've accumulated a lot of stuff over the years and would rather buy a bigger house than get rid of any of it.

@ Crusher, you sound like my wife. She was a collector too. We had about 2000 VHS tapes, close to 1000 books, most of hers were cookbooks. She didnt read much else. When she died we had a yard sale and got rid of most of it to pay for the funeral expenses. Im down to about 300 books now. Thats all I got room for in this small house. As for the VHS tapes, I kept about 100 of those. They self-destruct after a few years anyway so I probably wont have them much longer. Oh well, when they are gone that will give me that much more room for more usless junk.
