The College Adventure: The Web Which We Weave by Lorne W.P. Vanderwoude and Leslie Liddle is a short, fictional story about four people’s relationships and secrets. Janet, a security officer who works for her family’s university, has recently broken up with her boyfriend David and begun casually seeing Steve, another security worker. Then her cousin, Penny, moves to town and begins working with Steve. As the two form a relationship, Janet begins to spiral out of control. When she hits rock bottom, she must reconsider her life choices so far and make a new way forward, which will affect Penny, Steve, and David.

My confusion in this book began on the very first page, as the authors began the story without giving the reader much of the necessary background information. For example, the first scene takes place at the Jackson Security office, which the reader later realizes is located at Jackson University, but this issue isn’t addressed until after the characters are shown walking around the campus of the university, so the reader is left to wonder how the security office and university are related. Also, “the Jackson twins” are mentioned early in the first chapter, but the reader has only been introduced to Janet and Steve, who are not the twins being referenced. Without mentioning Janet’s twin sister, Sharon, the authors make it seem like Steve and Janet may be related. This gets worse when they begin making out in the next scene. Simply including last names when introducing the characters and giving a more thorough description of the setting would have fixed this confusion at the beginning of the book.

I was also constantly confused by the actions of the characters. I understand that Janet is intended to be a loose cannon who is afraid of commitment, but Steve, David, and Penny all tend to jump in and out of relationships with just as little consideration as Janet. I was especially confused as to how Penny, a single mother with an abusive ex-husband, would be willing to jump into a serious relationship so quickly. All of the characters seem to be rushing their relationships, and they have no qualms about making out with the nearest individual of the opposite sex, regardless of their relationship status.

I would rate this book 1 out of 4 stars. I was constantly confused, and the characters were inconsistent in their words and actions, which made them difficult for me to relate to. I also found numerous grammatical errors, instances of repetition of information or missing information, and typos throughout the book, which seem to indicate that it hasn’t been professionally edited. Even after finishing the book, I was confused about what the plot actually was, and the authors spend a lot of time expressing their disapproval of gossipy Christians, which led to an undeveloped tangential plot line. Overall, I felt the story was rushed and unrealistic and that readers won’t be able to relate to the experiences or choices of the characters.

I would recommend this book to readers who are looking for a quick and wild romance with a predictable ending. If you don’t mind grammatical errors, cheating, and sexual descriptions, you may enjoy this quick read.

This book sounds a bit odd to me. I'm not into the genre, and it sounds awfully confusing. I'll definitely be skipping this one. Sorry you had to endure. I hope the author is able to make some changes. Thanks!

This genre isn't typically my first choice to go to for reading as is, but I'm willing to venture from time to time. However, this book just doesn't seem very interesting considering the confusing plot and missing information. I would have to take a hard pass on this one.

I think this story could have been better if it had been worked on more because I sure its foundation is usable but it was just badly interpreted. Too bad it was published like this, I hope the author improves it based on your review. Great work!
