Sleepydumpling my family exactly.
When there not locked up there doing what they can to get put in jail.
I, like you am nothing like my family and would prefer not to see them. It just doesn't seem to happen that easily.

And yet I am who I am because of them. Even for the only reason that I refuse to live there way in anyway so live the exact opposite, Always earnest.
Though I can't seem to escape the family trait of not trusting a person once I find out there a cop.
And when my partner suggested that he join the police force I was instinctively horrified

I agree Kae, I wouldn't call it instinctive either. It would be for those who are in a nuturing environment perhaps, but you have to be loved to be able to give love I think. I know I wasn't able to love fully until I was an adult and experienced love from outside my family, as I didn't get any from my family before then.

I once heard someone say that God gives you friends to make up for your family.

From past experience...it would seem...a kind of temporary insanity. ;)

I do agree that friends are the family you get to choose.I often wonder how I would of survived with out my closest friend and her family. it's embarassing how much I owe them, knowing I could never give back half of what they gave me.

Instinctive isn't right. I'm not sure what is but I do feel a strong sence of loyalty, instinct was just a easy way to explain that loyalty to people who aren't loyal.
I herd a nurse say once that a child will cry for a parent no matter how that parent treats them, though I don't feel sad that there not in my life more, and it's actually a relief that there not, I thought it might be something like that with me.
Though I can fully love I can't fully trust especially men.

When I first saw this topic and it's many post I thought because I have been apart of a relationship for eight years that I would have a good understanding of love and it's many degrees.Since I have taken the time to think about this topic of love I have come to realize, I really don't know much and everybody who has spoken are a lot wiser then me.
I now find that I really don't understand love at all and even less the things it makes you do as well as tolerate.
And it's got me thinking alot about what people tolerate for love and what they shouldn't.
There's some that should never be tolerated like violence.
But what about forgetting b'days or anniversaries? Rudeness or other things that don't seem as important but eat at yourself esteem?

What should or should not be tolerated?

Umm..umm, Indeed! I know what you speak of, clearly this is a key factor in the demise of many a relationship. Forgetting..or maybe it is more of (taking for granted). Some people just stop caring, thats not good. Passion can't work on its own, thats why its passion! The drive and desire to please and love your partner. When you lose sight of key things such as respect..(caring), relationships can start to crumble, bitterness sets in.
I was in a very abusive relationship, but that is the past, I wouldn't allow myself to tolerate that now. We all love to have our self esteem stroked,
doesn't mean your all together vain, its just nice when people acknowledge birthdays and anniversaries..or that you had your hair done..lost a few pounds..asking how you are..listening to you speak..whatever. It matters. Hmmm, the degrees of love. I dunno either :? I just want someone to love me and my children

You know, I really do know my deal breakers in a relationship. I think it's all about knowing what's acceptible and what's not.

For me, the big no-no's are...

infidelity
any form of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, financial, etc)
dishonesty

The rest I reckon I'm negotiable on!

I definitely know my limits on the big things it's the little ones that build up I think I let go to far.
And how do you tell a friend if you see signs her relationship is turning bad?

Not much has changed in my relationship in the last month since i've been on last. We are still dating and i miss him. I'm home for a week and i miss him. We talk everyday but I hate being so far away from him.

For me honesty, trust, and respect are the three 'Must-Haves' in a relationship. Infidelity, and as Sleepydumpling mentioned, any form of abuse whether it be verbal, emotional or physical will not be tolerated.

Wow i was reading my post in this thread and, I was truly happy with him. Why is is such a d bag then? We were talking yesterday and I was like "I need to ask you some questions" And he answered everyone.

Its only been a week, A WEEK, and he's sleeping with his ex girlfriend, soon to be gf again. He said that he didn't sleep with her while we were dating but I don't know if I can trust him on that one. I was really a total B**** to him but personally I think he deserved it.

So we are hanging out tonight, 1) to return my stuff and 2) I need to talk to him in person. This over the internet stuff sucks.
