I have just started reading this, although this is not my usual genre. I have to say the plot itself is intriguing. I just notice that the dialogue is sometimes difficult to follow and abrupt. I love the illustrations though.

It definitely straddles the line between middle-grade and young adult, which does mean that parents may want to read it in advance of letting younger kids read it, or read it with them, or listen along to the audio book together. This provides and opportunity to discuss some of the more violent or disturbing scenes with younger kids.
This is good advice. Parents are sometimes oblivious to the content of their children's reading. I think it is every bit as important to skim the kids' written material as it is to set time limits for inter-netting and give parental rating restrictions to television programs. Thank you for your inbsight.

I'm posting this before reading the book. I'd like to see how my opinion changes after reading the synopsis, and then the whole book.

After synopsis...
It sounds a little bit of a cross between the movie "Us" and a typical YA fantasy fiction book. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it as it seems to have a unique plot - I'm definitely looking for something I have never read before.

The premise is quite unique and interesting, the journey even more promising. However, it was a bit of difficult read for me personally but overall a quite decent read. I see a lot of people here that haven't read the book and hence, I'm not going into more detail.

I read The Crystilleries of Echoland some time ago and rated it 4 out of 4 stars. The story is original, and the author develops it well. Considering the setting and magic of this book, I think I would recommend it to readers who love to dream while reading. It is an amazing read, and I hope I will have the chance to re-read it again soon.

I actually read this back in February for my first review with Online Book Club. It was hard for me to get into, the writing was too simplistic for me and there wasn't enough relationship building. I found the plot progressed too much and never really stay in one place long enough for me to enjoy what was happening, or fully immerse myself in the settings.

gali wrote: 31 Aug 2019, 23:41 I finished it the other day and like it overall. The concept is original, but the world-building reminds me of Harry Potter's world. The story follows the magical quest of a twelve-year-old boy, as he goes into the parallel Echo realm to search for his missing sister. I love the idea of a parallel world, where reflections (echoes) of people (sounds) live. The illustrations added to the magic of the world. I enjoyed the scene where the pets revealed their true selves. Although I didn't notice any glaring errors, the writing was a bit juvenile. Still, I liked it. The orphanage reminded me of Hogwarts with his methods of serving meals, riddles, secret passages, and scary creatures that roamed the school. I loved that Hebrew was the key to the map and to saving Echoland. I liked that animals played a large role throughout the story. I also liked the play on words such as: the dog Poudini instead of Houdini; Crystalmas instead of Christmas. I enjoyed the book, but the plot felt a bit choppy at times, the fate sealers seemed to attack without any reason, and some parts dragged (the translation section). Therefore, I gave it 3 out of 4 stars.
I agree with you in the fact that some magical aspects seem like the ones in Harry Potter. However, I think it might be because if you had magic, how else would you make good appear. It just becomes the common sense in a magical situation.

After reading the reviews of others on this site, I think that I will be reading this book! I tried to get it from this website but ended up having many problems with getting a copy. It is unfortunate; I really wanted to give this book a good read. :(

I originally gave this book a 3 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed the story but I did find some bits confusing and not well explained. After reading other people's comments about how Emmy's character wasn't developed enough and they felt that the reunion of the parents was very underplayed, I agreed and now I should really rate this book 2.5 out of 4 stars instead. Pellucid did do a great job in creating a magical world though.

I think I would give this book a grudging 3. It's not so flawed that it deserves a 2, but it's not that great either. The concept is original and interesting, and there's a lot of action and adventure. But the action zigs and zags in different directions, so it's hard to be sure what's actually happening. Also, the writing is inconsistent. It's generally very simple, suitable for a young reader, but the vocabulary is too advanced. And the character development is non-existent.

I read this one a little while back and I really enjoyed it. I thought the author did an amazing job of creating a divide between the two worlds. I thought the characters were a bit flat at times, but that was the only part I disliked. I gave it a 4 out of 4 stars rating.

I agree with your evaluation. I think it was a nice, fun read that had a magical world that was well-developed.

I thought this was a great book. I personally love fantasy type books so I was hooked. Plus, the fact that you're on your toes till the end of the book guessing who the main villain is made it fun. What I liked least of the book is that I listened to the audio version. The audio version was great with all the different character voices but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I were able to read it and really soak it in. I would definitely recommend this book to any fantasy lover. I gave this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars.

Honestly, I haven't yet read the book, but the reviews I read starting from the time it was the official book of the day, has ignited the desire to give it a read forthwithly.

I like what one reviewer wrote about Will's character of trusting his instincts and seeking other people's help which I can say as being determined but humble, that is the nature of a good leader.
