The review has shown that the author is quite talented in the use of words. So apart from the historical fiction part, the way she expresses herself in a poetic manner is quite fascinating. Congrats to the book of the day.

It would indeed be a tricky challenge to believably “write” with just a sixth grade level of education, if you’d conceivably had far more than that as an author. And as much as I enjoy historical fiction tales, it sounds like the political climate of this one might be decidedly overcast in terms of my literary tastes. Thanks for the helpful review!

I'm interested to learn about that part of Chinese history. The first chapters sounded juvenile, though. I do wonder if Chun and Fang will fulfill their promise of love in the midst of the political conflicts.

This historical novella sounds like a very interesting read. It takes place during the Cultural Revolution in China and also contains a romance story. Congrats on the book of the day. Great review.

The book sounds exciting. People's lives were so restricted: they were told what to read, how to eat, where to work and how long to study and many other things. It will be interesting to read about the Cultural Revolution in China and its implications. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Even though the tone of this novella would likely irritate me as well, the book is short and the historical setting is intriguing. I would be interested in giving it a chance.

I agree with all that you said. The best point of the book would be, for me, to find out about real people living in Communist China.
Indeed the main character blushes a lot, and I have just sampled the first chapter.

The fact that this is a novella makes iy more attractive to me. Also, I'm personally guilty of over-using exclamation and ellipsis is my writing. This makes me curious to read the book. A wonderful review, gives us both the positives and not so positive. Loking forward to reading this one.

The BOTD sounds nice as far as poetic writing but Im not particularly interested in it due to the historical fiction genre that it is classified in. I like how you were able to accurately paint a picture of the storyline without giving away any spoilers. Great review.

This book sounds like its beautifully written. I know almost nothing about China in the ‘60s, so I look forward to learning about some of this history.
