I don't have any children but I tend to use book character names as aliases on the computer. Kaye from Holly Black's YA book Tithe in particular. My name begins with a K so I liked the play on that. I also want to name a dog Magnus after Tom Hiddleston's character in the British Wallander series which came from a book series. I think it would be perfect for a corgie.

I named my dog after a canine character in a book. His name is Chips and was named after Old Pete`s dog in numerous Robert Rankin books in the Brentford Trilogy (now about 8 books in the series)

This may not count, but I named my oldest daughter Erika in honor of Erica Cane on All My Children. Erica has had some books written about her...

A friend named his boy Clint, after Clint Eastwood. Everyone called him Rowdy, after Eastwood's character Rowdy Yates in the old Rawhide TV series.

My son is named Gethin Caulfield. My late husband's favourite literary character was Holden Caulfield the protagonist from Catcher in the Rye. After much ado I finally agreed to allow Caulfield to be Gethin's middle name.

I've never had the heart to tell my son that Catcher in the Rye is numbered amongst my least favourite stories. However, the cloud with the silver lining is that 'Caulfield' is another tangible connection my son has to his father beyond DNA. And how wonderful is that? :D

My son's name is Jeremy - I actually named him after one of our friends, it was only later that I realised it's the title of one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs :)

I met another little girl named Ayla a few years ago. She's probably 12 or 13 now, but I thought it was pretty cool. My mom read those books but I haven't gotten to them, but I recognized the name right off.
Daffodil wrote:I got chatting to a mum with kids at the grocery store and she called out to her daughter "Ayla!". I was so gobsmacked that I told her that was a character in one of my favourite books and she nodded wildly and said "YES! Clan of the Cave Bear!" I nearly dropped my eggs. I did consider it for my own children very briefly - but with the Aussie accent and the tendency to add 'ay... or hey' to the end of each sentence it was quickly banished. I ended up with Gracie for one of my girls as I fell in love with the little Aboriginal girl from 'Rabbit Proof Fence'.

I wanted name my eldest daughter Scarlett but my husband hated the name, and Atticus immediately made the forbidden list for our son. I was reading the Whiteoaks(?)/ Jalna dynasty when I was expecting my second daughter and really took a liking to the character Pheasant's name...yeah, I heard 'No' a lot when I made baby name suggestions, lol.

I'm a bit outspoken on this topic..."creative" names are wonderful for pets, but for human children what seems trendy or fanciful now may not be so Wow in twenty years, forty years...spelling too-Jaiyden, Kayhdan, Haiydan...especially if you have a complicated last name. Better to pick a basic name with a bunch of nicknames possible-Michael, Daniel, Emily, Elizabeth, Alexander, Benjamin...really...
