Since Jonathan was her student, I wonder if he was still a minor when they met the second time? Although I like Romance, I might have a misgiving about this. Thanks for your review.

I always like romance novel, and as it happened in this book, there are few cases where a male students do fall for their female tutor, though very rare cos of the age difference issues. But good playground from the author. Thanks for this review.

Unfortunately, pure romance is just not my cup of tea. If there was at least one more word to definite genre such as: suspense, paranormal even historical, there would have been chance to convince me to read book depending on plot. But as it is I will have to pass, sorry.

An interesting topic for a romance which appears to include a variety of elements as well. A romance between individuals of vastly different ages, especially between a teacher and a pupil is always a controversial topic so I am sure this makes fascinating reading as well. I enjoy novels set in the sixties because they usually include elements which are nostalgic to me. I enjoyed your comprehensive and well rounded review.

The characters are wonderfully three-dimensional, as their insecurities as well as their good and kind souls are brought to life. In a time when a relationship with an older woman is uncommon, it’s heart-warming to see how they face society’s scrutiny. The secondary characters provide a good balance and history to Marion and Jonathan, offering support and advice as well as voicing their own concerns about the relationship.

This is such an important asset! Outstanding character development is always a win in my book. I believe, too, that alternating perspective, when done right, can enrich a story very much.
I loved your reflection on the sandcastles' image.

Romance is not my kind of stuff but I see that in this novel it's a part of a story that's much broader genre-wise.

Thanks for the informative review. I had concerns with the writing style from the sample that I have read, but from your description, it seems fitting. Love surviving against all odds is inspiring, I am concerned though about the teacher-student relationship as it would be unethical especially if the student is a minor. Breaking Sandcastles by Kirk Burris is a romance novel about Marion and Jonathan. Nowadays we have started to think openly. Relation should based on love not on some social criteria. The novel seems to have a very mature topic.

This one sounds interesting with the the various subjects throughout. The sample pages were quite attention grabbing as Marion’s husband is lying on the beach from a health related emergency. It seemed like it was just going to be a romance novel, but your review makes it sound like so much more. Thanks for the insight on this one. Looks very intriguing.

After reading the sample I had wanted to read this book, but now having read this review I can’t wait for it. The story sounds so engaging a full, refusing a cookie-cutter romance. I love how the author slips between past and present to give further depth to the characters. Excited for this one!!

I am not into an age gap romance but it is refreshing to see a romance where woman is older. That is usually not the case. I love a good romance novel. I might give this a chance. Great review.

A novel that falls within the romance genre and revolves around a teacher and her student with a significant age gap with well-developed characters and nice plot twists must be an interesting read. Thanks for the great review.

An intriguing romance novel "Breaking Sandcastles" by Kirk Burris, which follows a new art teacher Marion and her student Jonathan. who get attracted towards each other. Nicely crafted characters with good portraying of their insecurities and also their good souls are brought to life. The story appears to be captivating.
