Though this not my usual genre I am intrigued with so many glowing reviews. I will surely read this one. The sample I read is so much promising.

I haven't read the book but I must say that it is my next book for sure. It sounds interesting.

I gave Opaque 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading it and want to follow up with the other two novels because of unanswered questions. There were points that I could not put it down. :D :D :D

It is very disturbing to me that Adam has romantic feelings for his mother. It is against my moral values, so therefore I will not be able to continue reading this book.

The only thing I liked in the book was a quote from the author: " Any life lived can be deemed an arduous journey." It is very true and can apply to anyone."

I read this book last week, and it has a dark side. I have to admit that I found myself not liking the main character. He did have a cool ability though.

Not usually my genre of choice, but with the added piece of romance, I can get past the sci-fi aspect. My favorite aspect is the relationship between Adam and Carly. My least favorite aspect are the genetic mutations. So far, I give it a 3 star rating.
Is the 3 star rating due to the sci-fi part of the book? I was just wondering.

Your the first person to mention his romantic feelings towards his mother. Now I’m not sure if I can read the book as planned thanks for that information.

Like I said on Facebook, it started out weird, making it look like Adam was in a prison, and then possibly given a drug to make him too warm, unable to breathe? Then I couldn't tell what his relationship with his parents was, healthy or lacking something. I didn't get very far in the sample.

This is not my usual genre, but I find myself enjoying it. I liked the character development of Adam. I also enjoyed the dynamics of the relationship between Adam and Caryl.

I actually started the book and put it aside. It did not seem the book for me, but after reading these reviews, I will definitely go back and give it another chance.

mariana90 wrote: 02 Feb 2020, 14:58 I read the first few pages and it seems like I won't be finishing it. I read the blurb and the comments on the forums and it was like a checklist for every YA fantasy/science fiction novel:
-the 16 year old protagonists (I don't know about the rest of you, but at 16 I was barely trusted with the keys to my house, let alone the fate of the world!)
-the love triangle
-kids with amazing abilities (not necessarily the superpowers, but mostly the professional training in several different martial arts Adam has).
and my biggest pet peeve:
-characters that seem to come out of a model catalogue, with sculpted physiques and perfect figures.
At 16? :lol2: Yep, over developed. And you forgot the constant posturing of these magazine models. These are the same things that make me turn off the TV. Why would I want to read about them?

ciecheesemeister wrote: 02 Feb 2020, 17:03 I'm not done reading it yet. It is well-written but so far I've knocked a star off for the all-too-frequent references to Carly's bum, for the fact that pretty much every character is Hollywood pretty, and for the use of the word "bipolar" as a slur.
"She sighs at his bipolar actions."
It is incredibly insulting to use a person's health conditions in this fashion. "He's so autistic." "She's so bipolar." To do so displays a great deal of insensitivity and a lack of education about neurological and psychological differences.
I have bipolar disorder. The way I behave tends not to vary greatly. When people like the author use "bipolar," what they mean is "mercurial" or "changeable, blowing hot and cold, that sort of thing. A person can behave that way and not have bipolar disorder, and many people with bipolar disorder do not behave that way.
Here is what bipolar disorder is for me. It is a condition that may someday kill me. I fight every day against acting on the suicidal thoughts that are my constant companion and have been for my entire life. To have my fight reduced to an offhand adjective in a young adult novel is a huge insult. I intend to say as much in my review, and I certainly hope that the author will rethink using health conditions as adjectives in the future.

Good for you, cie. I'm glad you spoke up. Especially as this book is being marketed to young adult readers. We do sooooo not need this kind of cruelty taught to the next generation.
