Bridget is my favorite character because she does not allow emotions to control her decisions. I'm saying this because of how she stood firm and rejected marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Seamus. It takes courage to turn down such a proposal.

I have yet to read the book, so I can't choose a favourite character yet, but based on reviews and comments, I'd say that Sarah may become my favourite.
People who read are hiders. They hide who they are. People who hide don't always like who they are.

Yeah , I think that this book had interesting cast of female characters. Sarah- the grandmother, Hillary- the mother and Claire - the kid. All great examples of the generations. All held together by Hillary.

Bridget too was my favorite character. She fought for what she wanted and believed in.

And oh she was a fighter and she wasn't too easy. But well, she loved the wrong person.

My favorite characters are Hillary and Sarah.

Hillary made bad choices, was erractic, over protective now, least protective the next few minutes, at some point rigid but she was willing to correct her mistakes.

Even though I think she was a bit too obsessed in being a good mother, she found her way around it. This for me, touched my heart..Hillary's struggle some how made me see myself in her, and I can relate with her pains and hurt.

Sarah, bless her, an older and wiser character was there to help make things less difficult. She loved with her all.

Definitely Bridget. The author fleshed her our early in the narrative. Good thing, of course, as she didn't get to stick around long. Claire, too. She reminded me of my daughter at that age.

I love your explanations. I do think somewhat the same. I would add Claire as third generations in this ensemble of great and interesting female characters.

Claire was definitely my favourite character. She is lovable, innocent and easy to warm up to. She loves her family and her childish behaviour is so typical.

I would have to say Bridget was my favorite character. She didn't back down from what she believed in, and the threats didn't scare her.

Absolutely Clair! She is so clever and curious and her innocence gives tenderness to the story. Also her loving heart was lovely.

My favourite character was Bridget who, in spite of her wealth, worked assiduously and in spite of threats to her life, to ensure the suffering of her people were not forgotten. She had no need to work for a living but still did. My idea of a strong independent woman.

There was certainly no shortage of strong and relatable female characters in this book and I, for one, applaud this.
I like all four female characters too.
