The Stripper and Her Boss is an autobiographical book written by Angel-Jane Valentine. The name is a pseudonym to protect the author’s identity, and she refers to herself as “Jane” throughout the story. Most of the events in the book take place in London during the 1960s. Jane finds herself completely broke after her husband gambles away the family business. In desperate need of money, she agrees to become a stripper. She is reluctant at first but finds herself drawn into the atmosphere and the lifestyle almost immediately. Jane truly starts to enjoy stripping and all the male attention that she receives. She quickly catches the eye of her boss, and he prepositions her to become his personal stripper and his “sex slave.” Due to her financial circumstances and fear of losing her job, Jane sees no choice but to accept his offer. She is instantly attracted to her much older boss, and his gangster past and villain persona make her both desire and fear him at the same time. Jane becomes addicted to stripping and having wild sex with her boss. Following his every command, she becomes completely subservient to him. Will this arrangement and relationship last? Will her lifestyle finally take a toll? Even if she ever wanted to leave, can her villain boss really let her go? Can Jane actually take back control of her own life? Find out in this raunchy and highly erotic memoir that doesn’t hold anything back.

I liked that the author was brave enough to share her entire story. She reveals all the private details about her absurd and sometimes deranged life with her boss. Due to the sensitive nature of the book, Jane does need to be commended for her courage and fearlessness. It takes major guts to disclose her honest feelings and thoughts about everything that happens to her. She fully admits to being addicted to stripping and enjoying being sexually dominated. She divulges all of her sexual desires. She almost seems boastful and stands completely by her life choices. She is especially proud of her seductive striptease techniques and hopes that people can learn and emulate them.

Unfortunately, one of the things that I didn’t particularly enjoy about the book was the writing style used. There was very little dialogue, and it was very much the case of the author retelling what happened without showing it. With the way the book was written, it made it very hard to connect to the writing and the characters. The characters did not seem real or dynamic because they hardly ever spoke. The writing style also made the book hard to get through.

Another thing that I took issue with was the fact that the book was very repetitive. The author used the same phrases on many pages, and it got very irritating after a while. I felt like the book should’ve been edited tighter and could’ve been a bit more organized and even condensed.

I’m rating this book 2 out of 4 stars. I appreciated the author’s honesty and bravery in telling her story. She truly held nothing back and wasn’t afraid to reveal all. The professional editing was a plus as well, and there were no errors found. I’m taking two stars away because I didn’t like the writing style used. I felt that there was not enough dialogue, and it made the book tough to get through. It was difficult to connect to the actual writing and the characters. The book was also pretty repetitive, and certain phrases were repeated over and over. While there were no errors, the editing could have done a better job tightening the manuscript up.

I also have to mention that this book deals with many sexual fetishes, including domination, sadomasochism, and group sex. There are also very explicit details to describe sexual acts. I would recommend this autobiography to mature adults who enjoy books about stripping and sex. I would say women who want to learn about the art of a seductive striptease might like this book. Older men might enjoy the book because it shows that you don’t have to be young to enjoy a very active sex life.

I agree that the author was quite courageous in revealing this story, but it sounds like the book failed to make the mark in the author's writing style. Thank you for your honest review.

The author is really candid and upfront on her former life. I hope she does this to pass some life lessons to others. Thanks for the insightful review.

I appreciate the author being completely honest and candid about here life as a stripper. I often wonder how people get into this life. Definitely not the life for me. This book doesn't sound like one I would enjoy reading. Thanks for your review.

Oh, my goodness! I can imagine the life. The book sounds like a packed one, and I'm curious about her husband's whereabouts while she stripped. But there's only so much I can stomach, and it doesn't include those sexual fetishes you mentioned in your review. I'll pass.
Thank you for this very honest review.

This is a book I'll love to read. I really want to see how it all ended for her. I mean, stripping in the 60s? Did she divorce her husband? This book sounds intriguing, and she sounds like a resilient woman to me. But it's a shame that the author silenced other characters. That may make it a boring read. Thank you for this insightful review.

This is not the kind of book I enjoy, but I certainly enjoyed your balanced and clear review. (It's also nice to hear that something was well edited for a change.) Thanks!

At her time when married women were expected to be virtuous and pure, Jane dared to take on a job as controversial as stripping, her spunk knows no bounds. I am really curious as to why she chose that career path against other options she might have had. I guess I have to read the book to find out. Thanks for your analysis.

I would love to read this. The women's true desires and fantasies owned and something proud of are pretty rare and appealing.

Personally, I wouldn't be interested in this book, as I'm more into steamy romance/erotic-type books, but that's a great review! Maybe I'll introduce it to my friend (he's into that stuff)

I don’t see myself enjoying this book since the writer was repetitive. I prefer a book that has a lot of flavor and garnishing. Good review.

Sounds like a brave book to write, and maybe a brave one to read too. Considering the repetitiveness, I think I'll pass on this one. Thanks for your honest review!
