Meet Cindy Linke: brave acrobat, devoted mother, permanent optimist, and so much more. Her autobiography Chick on a Perch tells a beautiful, heartwarming tale of one girl becoming a woman amid hard times in the United States. Each chapter works together to create an enchanting picture of her hopes and dreams alongside her successes and failures. While Cindy's household wasn't wealthy, it was always rich in love. Not even the struggles of the Great Depression or the Second World War could break the bonds of the tight-knit Hornick family.
Cindy's titular claim to fame is her teenage career as an acrobat, which she began training for at the age of ten. The sunny Muscle Beach near Cindy's home in California was filled with Hollywood stuntmen who offered free lessons to skilled youths like Cindy and her siblings. This book is named after her first professional act, in which she performed tricks thirty feet in the air on a perch held up by her older brother Jeff. Traveling with circuses and rodeos around the country allowed Cindy to make amazing memories and meet a myriad of unique people.
As significant as performing is to Cindy, it is obvious that her passion, not her acrobatic career, is what defines her. She works hard to be successful in every goal that she sets. Her love for her relatives shines on every page as she recounts pieces of their rich history and their role in helping her become the person she is today. The most important part of Cindy's life is her family. She dedicates whole chapters to the people close to her, allowing the reader to get a glimpse into who they are and what makes them special.
One of my favorite aspects of the book is Cindy's writing style. Her level of genuine, intimate detail made me feel like I was truly part of her family. When she talked about the experience of being on the perch, I could easily envision myself beside her, high above the crowds. In some instances, she even addresses the reader directly. As I was reading, the emotion and vulnerability present in each word gradually drew me into Cindy's world completely.
One thing I disliked about the book, however, was its beginning. Slow pacing in the first chapters made it hard for me to keep track of Cindy's family members. Likewise, infrequent grammar errors were distracting from her narrative. This initially kept me from connecting with what I was reading. Nonetheless, the editing seemed to improve with each page. As errors decreased, I couldn't help but be caught up in the excitement of Cindy's life.
Overall, I rate Chick on a Perch with 3 out of 4 stars. The errors early in the book may make it hard for readers to engage with the story, which is why I can't give it a perfect score. Nonetheless, I think Cindy's writing style makes every chapter an enjoyable read. Because Cindy frequently addressed how times have changed since her childhood, the book is best suited to adult readers who can relate to these sentiments. She steers away from adult content, highlighting a caring, wholesome household with a focus on God instead. The warmth of family and the thrill of performing are sure to be appealing for all ages. Whether Cindy is writing about Minnesota winters with the family, sunny California days on the beach, or Midwest rodeos from atop a perch, this chick ensures that her readers are in for a heartwarming, unforgettable, and exciting ride.

It's a good book that gives the reader an eye opener for considering love to be the strongest factor in life. Just imagine the bond which existed.
When there is love in the family, you will push and help other to achieve the goals you desire.
Because of the love , she is a star now.
This is a nice book n gives the spirit of unit amongst people not only to closes relatives but friends and colleagues too.
