3/4 the way through the Book Thief.... absolutely loving it. Parts of it has even profoundly moved me.

I cried buckets over that book, glad you are enjoying it.

I cried when I "read" the book that Max made for Liesel. The art work, with the underlying words of Mein Kampf, very moving.

Yea it is funny when someone changes their avatar how you kinda miss the old one .... guess it's a bit like someone you're familiar with getting a make over. On the other hand we can all do with a buff & polish occasionally.
Fran, Your new avatar has a touch of the private investigator look to it. We musn't let the Spellman philosophy take over our lives ... look what it did to them ... *LOL*.

Any chance you'd drop by here & do a few more shelves for me .... the resident handyman is gone a tad workshy.

I really do admire your patience, there is no way I could wait so long for a book to arrive. I'm currently reading Madeleine Albright's memoir & she says when she got a Kindle for Xmas 2010 & the first book she downloaded & reread was War & Peace (one of my all time favorites). I was delighted to note that even a former US Secretary of State opted for the free downloads like the rest of us mortals! :)

Hope you, Maud & Primrose are enjoying your extended weekend .... have a good one
Fran, I would be happy to put up a few shelves for you. However do not put any valuable books on them, because they may fall down. My heart is in the right place but I am a pretty ordinary handyman, hence the reason it has taken me so long to work on it.

I too love "War an Peace". I have read it twice and am plannning to go and give it a third reading.
It's the last day of our long weekend and the plan is to put up some more shelves, however I am thinking of painting the room now so I may have to take down the three that I put up. :D

@Primrose

It really is a great book, I am so glad that you are enjoying it. :D

As stated in the Jasper Fforde post, I will supply afternoon tea once the hard work has been done.
FYI, there's a little place near me called IKEA and they do a pretty mean line in DIY shelving. Dare I suggest?

@ Primrose. If you get the chance, I'd enjoy reading your thoughts on "The Book Thief" in the Specific Books & Series Forum thread. Go for it!

I have suggested IKEA but my resident handyman is a bornagain DIYER (actually quite good but lacks motivation!) ... he reacts to a mention of IKEA the way you react to a mention of Kindle

My library is quite small but I have managed to secure a copy of Curse of the Spellmans. They do not have a copy of The Spellman files except on audiobook, so I am having a crack at that. I am listening to it in the car as I go about my day. I live in a small place without peak hour traffic so my installments are relatively brief. I am however going to Orange next weekend which is a 10 hour drive. Should make a dent in it then. :D

Hope you enjoy The Spellmans, Primrose. The books are not cerebral, if you know what I mean, they have dialogue which reads like a sit-com, but they are humorous and highly enjoyable (and non-threatening because nobody gets murdered) and makes me realise how normal my family is by comparison!

@Maud, I am very interested to know what you think of Kathy Lette? I have not read any of her work apart from "The Boy who fell to Earth" which I really enjoyed. I have found myself a new "Rome" author. I don't know how he has managed to elude me up until now. Douglas Jackson is his name and his first book "Caligula" is on it's way to me as I type. Of course none of them hold a candle to Colleen. :D

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Ps You better answer this post promptly or, or, ahhrr, ahhm, just answer it promptly OK.

Douglas Jackson is not a name I know, but I'm completely sure that you will enjoy his book. Anything with a name like "Caligula" has to grab your attention - Rome's most tyrannical roman emperor and one sick puppy.

Kathy Lette I do know. Love her style! She first came to my attention with "Mad Cow" which I believe was made into a movie but I never saw it. "The Boy Who Fell To Earth" is party autobiographical because her son is autistic. I liked it although it was different to some of her earlier novels. I'm more for the silliness of "Altar Ego" and "Nip & Tuck".

Queensland is heading into schools holidays. Roads empty, beaches full.

I love her style as well. With your recommendation I think I will have a look into her other books. I did read that she has an autistic son who is now grown up. It must have been very hard for her while he was growing up. I wonder how closely her own life compares with Lucy's. Thanks for the prompt reply, I wonder what the others who populate this Colleen thread think of Lette's work. Well I am off to play Batman with my little nephew. He has a batman costume now so he really looks the part. The bad thing is he never tires, he is like the energiser bunny. :D

Hope everyone has a sensational week. :D

I love Batman. Can I come and play, please? I'll bring my wrist web shooters. Oops, sorry, that's Spiderman.
Please, please, can I come and play superheroes with you.....
