I didn't care about big vocabularies. I simply ignored them and went ahead reading.

I grew up surrounded by books, my parents always liked reading and I picked up the habit. They always encouraged me, buying all the books I asked. Reading became part of my routine after I was around 9 years old.

I did and being a latchkey kid I was able to read when alone. There was a program across the street from my home during the summer that I would get breakfast and lunch. They would allow us to go inside the school and check out books from the library. I escaped from the stress of life into my bedroom and hide in the closet reading books when my parents had "friends" come over. I did the same when up until my mother went into rehab and I have always found books allowed me to grow and comfort me long before the internet existed.

No, I grew up with many other hobbies, mostly sports.

I'm kind of a weird person in my family. No one reads a lot in my family, no one likes to. None of my friends prefer reading as well. I'm the only person who is so attached to it.
I don't know how it came to be or how it developed, but I guess I always had this innate tendency and attachment with books and writing. Somehow both complemented each other and that is what shaped my life.

I grew up reading, loved it, stayed up nights to finish books. Still love it, at least reading a few pages just before bed but sometimes reading hours non-stop as well. My kids love being read to and my oldest (7 y) is already sneakily reading after bedtime .

I am the only one in my family that enjoys reading. I was a bit of a hectic child and ended up being grounded A LOT. Eventually, I developed a passion for reading just from trying to pass the time while I was grounded for months on end. It was either read a book or stare at the walls and wait for time to pass. I suppose I can be grateful for that because it made me the bookworm I am today.

I absolutely grew up reading, and I owe that to my first grade teacher, who noticed that I was reading at a faster pace than most of my class and introduced me to the Junie B. Jones books. That same year I started reading Harry Potter, and eventually all the other children's classics. I don't know who I'd be today if I hadn't developed a love for reading back then!

Yes. One of my fondest memories is of hiding underneath my covers in my bedroom, with my stolen flashlight as I secretly read my book. I spent many days of my childhood tired because I didn't want to go to sleep at night. I wanted to read.

Reading was a huge part of my childhood! I used to get in trouble for reading at the dinner table, I read in the bathtub, and I stayed up late reading every night. I could never understand my friends who didn't read like I did.

Yes! My parents would always read me a bed time story, and when I was about 5 I got tired of being read to so I started reading on my own. From then on it was non stop. I read everywhere and at any time, and often got into trouble for reading past my bedtime or reading in class.
