I have a hard time distinguishing favorites, but Ani Difranco and Dar Williams are 2 artists whose lyrics always amaze me and the music is amazing as well, as for a band, and the Grateful Dead are always reliably grate!

I love Gogol Bordello. I saw them when they opened for Cake and they were awesome--full tilt energy all the way through.

Have you seen Everything is Illuminated? The lead singer of Gogol Bordello is in it. Very funny, in a dark sort of way.

Radiohead - Thom Yorke presents such a bleak outlook with most of his songs, yet somehow he makes the depression seem beautiful. Wonderful music.

I would have to say it's a straightaway tie between Portishead and Schubert. I can't help but relax when I listen to Portishead but when I hear Schubert's piano sonata No. 21 I melt.
