Re: Apple vs fig

That's an interesting subject but I think quite irrelevant as it is really about what the fruit presents and not what type of fruit it is. Maybe the author portrayed it as a fig tree due to the fig leaves that they later on used as covering?

I strongly doubt the idea that it's was an Apple or A fig. Growing up, I understood the fruit to be the "forbidden fruit" but more often, some people think it was an Apple.

From my childhood, I have heard many say that it was an apple. Though we're not told anywhere in the bible. According to my understanding, I think an apple is commonly used because it is sweet and pleasing.

It makes sense that the fruit was a fig. Figs are mentioned in other places in the Bible. It says they ate of the fruit of the tree so we may never know.

Maybe we have been giving a literal interpretation to this context. What if the "fruit" mentioned in the Bible was metaphorical? Because the fruit was posed to give wisdom as the devil stated. Maybe the author chose using a type of tree that was peculiar to the Jews, since fig tree was mentioned quite considerably it became a good call for the author.

Wow. I've never heard this version. It's actually kinda funny.
I think the true fruit will never be known, until we meet God.
Live and let live, baby.

An apple isn't so juicy and delicious. Honestly, I don't think this was actually an apple. Why isn't anyone thinking if a ripen mango? Mangoes are juicier than apples.
I had not thought of a mango, but they are delicious, and definitely juicy!
Mango is definitely the most beloved fruit in India, and your mention of a mango was particularly intriguing to me as I recently heard an Indian poet's composition on the mango (that's right, he wrote a poem on the various varieties of mango-- I can name 10, I'm sure there are more), in which he also wonders whether the garden of Eden had a mango tree!

I would tend to believe the Garden of Eden had all types of trees, so I believe there probably was a mango tree! We will never know because we haven't been allowed to live there, as intended by God, because of the serpent and Adam and Eve! If they had just followed God's instructions none of us would have ever suffered or lacked anything! In addition to a mango tree in the garden, I believe there was every fruit bearing tree in the world.

Agreed! At least we know that it was a fruit that they were not allowed to eat.

I think it is not really that important. We are talking metaphorically anyway.

This is just like the controversy over Jonah and the whale. The bible says 'a big fish'. The bible never explicitly states the type of fish or any further details. Just another snare to catch ourselves up in to distract us from the real point of the story.

Even though, nowhere in the Bible, it's mentioned that this 'fruit" is an apple, from childhood itself, in many stories that I have listened and read by myself, an apple was always used to depict this.
"fruit". This made some kind of concept inside me, about the
"fruit" is an apple. Even during our childhood stage plays of Bible stories, we used apple as the fruit. All these kind of memories make me image, the fruit as an apple.

Exactly, I do agree with you on this one.

I agree with you. We'll never know for sure. As kids, we were told that the Adam's apple was as a result of the remnants of the forbid fruit. Maybe that's the origin of the assumption.

This one I also heard of it when I was a kid it's quite interesting

I have never heard about Eve sleeping with Lucifer and giving birth to Cain. This is the first time I'm hearing about it. I'll ask around.
I second you on this one, never heard of it
