Whos your favorite actor or actress?

@Ant I'm not very comfortable with the word "Favorite". The American media has used it so often to promote
EVERYTHING that might give an edge to one "product" over another(who's your favorite teen idol felon?), that
it's value as a superlative or even a modifier of some repute is long past. That's neither your fault nor mine. Or
Bh's. So I'm reluctant to offer up the names of actors who have a special place in my heart under any banner reading
"Favorite". After all, I seek to praise them, not bury them.
Although you're a man of few words, I did happen upon one of your posts that was cause for reflection. It was your
post regarding the ability of music to empower a scene in a movie. Indeed to empower the movie itself. That music
was "Addaggio for Strings". It was used, you said, in a scene in "Platoon." I think you said you had forgotten the scene.
I remember the scene(s) and wrote you a reply that said it was my first exposure to "Addaggio" and that the two
scenes (Taylor watches bodybags being loaded on the C130 he's just gotten off of. Later, in the final scene, Taylor
breaks down on the chopper ride out. For him Vietnam, has just ended)would not have had the impact without "A for S".
After composing the post, I then realized that our posts were many years apart, and so just deleted it. I only bring it
up now because I think an eye like yours deserves consideration. And that hopefully, you'll respond more to some
of Bh's Off-Topic Threads, the closest thing to a Rohrsach Test found anywhere on OLBC. Or take issue with some of
my posts, which are really just monuments to Irresponsibility and Hyperbole. I have to confess, the Spector of Hyde
Park, looms unrequitted in my soul. Please keep in touch.

Yes, I well recall the post...and the music, those scenes would not have had the same impact without A for S and every time I hear it I am instantly reminded of the film, now that is some impact. A few other "tunes" can do the same but not that many in comparison to the amount of films made, Jaws and Hitchcock's Psycho spring to mind.
Would love to respond more to the off topic threads, and would never take issue with your "ramblings", mainly because I don't know what you are talking about most of the time it may be because I'm a young whippersnapper(greenhorn ) at 50yo but i've been around a bit and will happily contribute when I can

Well, I aint had a whole lot of book larnin, but I can understand some of what Din is talking about. (about 10%) But thats OK. Im just glad you guys put up with our nonsense and havent kicked us off the forum or sent us threatning letters or put pipe bombs in our cars or poisoned our dogs. (i dont think, anyway. I havent checked my mail yet this month or started my car for a couple days) When you get our age some of the old grey matter goes whacko and some pretty insane stuff is the result.

I just wanted to add, as the the great philsopher Silas Whirltit once said, We've got to lead the kids across the swamp.

One Id have to add is Bonita Granville. Most people probably have never heard of her, she was Nancy Drew in the movies. Great actress she gave one hell of a performance in Hitler's Children as a member of the Hitler Youth. She was in another one with Claude Rains. I forget the name of it, its about a guy who invented kerosene refergerators. Granville played his daughter.

Another actress from that era who was good was Kay Francis. She was in the Bette Davis-Joan Crawford school of actresses, but was better than any of them. She made a bunch of movies, made a bunch of money, married a rich guy and retired at a young age. Smart lady.
