"Perfect." by D. D. Larsen - Since she was ten years old, Seryna knew she wanted to be a doctor and preferred swatting to parties. Her friends persuade her to relax and go to a party where casual sex is the name of the game. Seryna meets a "perfect" guy and continues with many adventures and many erotic scenes. The review was perceptive. Thanks.

While I love a good romance novel, I don't care for explicit sexual scenes. It sounds like that is the main focus of the book at times due to the multiple sexual encounters! I also prefer not to read books with frequent and strong profanity. The book probably would be a better read if another round of editing was done, and the sexual scenes and profanity were toned down. Thanks for the wonderful review! It is very insightful!

Thank you for the honest review. I will add this book to my reading list as I like to judge a book for myself. The story itself sounds interesting. While perfect men may not exist in the real world, isn't that the whole purpose of a romance novel? We read romance novels to help us forget about the issues in our own lives that may not be so perfect.

When I first read that Kieran always came to rescue right Seryna at the time of danger, I felt like he must be a supernatural being, but this appears not to be so. If I read the book, I would dislike this about it too. I like books that are either realistic or not. Anyways, I find the storyline interesting. Nice review you got here!

Thanks for the review, but I don't "do" romance novels these days, even if they do have other elements (like this one), so I'll take a pass on reading about Seryna's "journey in life and love"

Although today's BOTD isn't for me, readers interested in sexy, steamy romance novels with elements of action and adventure should give this one a try! I see this is a first in series; if you enjoy reading it, looks like there's more to come! Thanks for the helpful review!! :-)

Thanks for the honest review. This type of book doesn't really appeal to me, especially when the sex scenes begin to take over. I'm glad to have your review to guide me.

Perfect comes across as a fairy tale. Seryna is the night in shining amour, with Kieran as the damsel in distress. I would say that this doesn't happen so much these days.

Should you still face the truth with the same amount of bravery and conviction if it threatens to destroy that which you hold dear?
I was so excited about this story when you posed this question, but then you started to list all the aspects in which the novel falls short...Especially normalizing sexual harassment is something I don't think I can tolerate.
But your review is amazing, thank you!

It seems like there are a lot of problematic aspects with regard to gendered power dynamics, and the normalisation of sexual harassment is an immediate dealbreaker. Thank you for your insightful review, and I think I will give this a pass.

ritah wrote: 07 Jul 2020, 22:08 Another factor was that guys like Kieran don’t exist in real life (if you can overlook the inexperienced eighteen-year-old and older authority figure element). The man was always on time and ready to rescue Seryna when she was in trouble. Even when he traveled out of town, he somehow made it back in time to rescue her (note: he isn’t a supernatural being). He never misunderstood any situation he found her in and was always understanding and very generous with his resources. Apart from his relationship with Seryna, he was perfect. No significant character flaw apart from falling for someone he shouldn’t be with.
I second this one. Sometimes a perfect character can be such a turn off.
What isn't said is as important as what is said.

I liked the review. It was realistic and showed that although the story has a solid foundation, it needs some revision to the plot of it all. Realism is just as important as ironic in fiction to make the audience fall in love with a well written story.
