I'm gonna have to get with the times I guess, because I don't understand the glowing reviews of this book. Does giving glowing reviews enhance your standing here? I am a newbie, so just trying to learn the culture a bit. I found the writing to be far less than stellar, but I seem to be the only one who read the book who feels this way. I definitely enjoyed the author's imagination, the characters, the format, etc., but I struggled with the writing. Help me get this please!

I applaud the author's idea for the series and his world-building. However, I wish that there weren't as many points of view and subplots. It makes for an overwhelming introduction into the series. There is also a mix of using modern and medieval languages. It is a confusing book to read. The book is written in first and third-person narration. Overall, it left me bewildering, and not in a good way. This is the first book is a six-book series. So, I understand that some intro was needed for the world-building and character arcs. I would prefer if the author gave us more of the story. Consequently, it feels like with as many points of view we would go somewhere, but that is not the case. It is just a lot of promising future plot lines.
I would rate this book with two out of four stars. The lack of plot and character development is preventing me from rating it higher.
