I'm wondering if I'm the only "old guy" in this forum :). I'm gonna have to get with the times I guess, because I don't understand the glowing reviews of this book. Does giving glowing reviews enhance your standing here? I am a newbie, so just trying to learn the culture a bit. I found the writing to be far less than stellar, but I seem to be the only one who read the book who feels this way. I definitely enjoyed the author's imagination, the characters, the format, etc., but I struggled with the writing. Help me get this please!

We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies was a great introductory book for the We Are Voulhire series. The concept of the world was amazing, and I loved that we got some historical background. I love when authors are able to switch perspectives in an understandable way, because I feel like that adds a lot to the story. It was a little bit slow at times, especially on the parts from Galen's perspective, but that makes sense as it is an introductory book. I would definitely recommend it!

I felt Tysz is talented in creating a world where each city is unique with distinct personality of its own. It is creativity at its fullest. each time. The novel was the first of a series so many characters were introduced including a powerful mage named Meldorath and the vicious Riva Rohavi. I was amazed that the author did not lose focus with so many diverse characters he presented to the book.

This was my current read and I have loved every bit of this book. The dark magic is interesting. The book has also been professionally edited with no grammatical errors. However I wouldn't recommend it to viewers are below of ae since it contains profane words which might require caution.

This is an interesting book that touches different fictional angles. The author did a great job with the character development and I really love Galen. Overall I would say this is a great read for science fiction lovers.

Here is some parts of my review of this book.

I applaud the author's idea for the series and his world-building. However, I wish that there weren't as many points of view and subplots. It makes for an overwhelming introduction into the series. There is also a mix of using modern and medieval languages. It is a confusing book to read. The book is written in first and third-person narration. Overall, it left me bewildering, and not in a good way. This is the first book is a six-book series. So, I understand that some intro was needed for the world-building and character arcs. I would prefer if the author gave us more of the story. Consequently, it feels like with as many points of view we would go somewhere, but that is not the case. It is just a lot of promising future plot lines.
I would rate this book with two out of four stars. The lack of plot and character development is preventing me from rating it higher.

This book is my favorite out of the ones I have read since joining OBC. I gave it a rating of 4 out of 4. It was a lot of fun reading about the adventures of each of the characters in the story. What I liked most about this book was Matthew Tysz's ability to make me feel like I was there with each of the characters, experiencing events alongside them. What I liked least about the book was the cussing and sexual content found within. I would still recommend the book to others, so long as they know what to expect from the content ahead of time. The reason I would recommend it to others is that it's been rare for me to experience another book in the same way I did this one. Tysz did a phenomenal job of telling this story.

I rated it 3 out of 4 stars. Overall, I found it really enjoyable and there were a lot of intriguing moments. Still, the plot took some time to finally fully get started, and in my opinion the world building needed a bit more detail.

I gave the book a 4 out of 4 stars rating. The plot was almost flawless. It had a good amount of suspense too. Although I couldn't relate well with the characters that possessed magical powers, I think the author did a great job.

I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is full of suspense and twists and kept me interested until the last page. The flow of the story were entertaining and easily to follow. The outcomes at the end are scattered enough to make you want to read the following installments.

I rated the first book a three out of four stars. While it was an interesting start to this particular universe, it became a lengthy, drawn-out exposition. Furthermore, the amount of information dumping and overly-detailed world-building felt unnecessary at times. I wish that the author put more time into developing the relationships between characters and creating more three-dimensional personalities. I would recommend this book to those who prefer a slower-paced read, since this novel is packed with flowery descriptions and buckets of details.

The book at first seemed strange to me as I am not one who loves fantasy series. However, after reading, I truly enjoyed the story which led me to continue with the other books in the series. I really liked the fact that it was fascinating the most, but I disliked the continuous use of complex words. I would recommend the book to other because I know as a fact that they would enjoy reading it. I gave it a 3 out of 4 stars, only because the big vocabularies made me pause a lot while I read the book. In general, it is a really nice book to read
