I gave this book a 3 out of 4 stars. From the start of the book, I was invested in the world and characters. Tysz has a way of drawing in a reader quickly and allowing them to get invested In the different characters, especially Galen and Meldorath. It also made me want to continue reading the series, which hasn’t happened to me in a while. I couldn’t give it 4 stars because I counted many editing mistakes, but it’s still a fantastic start to the series that I’m excited to continue to read!

This book was a great start to the series. I am definitely going to try and read the rest of them! The worldbuilding was exceptional, especially the inclusion of history, science, magic and religion. It made the book (and series as far as I have read it) feel much more three-diemnsional.

I found this book really interesting, but it was really hard to follow the plot throughout. It felt almost like the first hundred pages of a great story, not like a fully fleshed out first book. The characters were great, though, and the concept was really interesting and enough to keep me coming back for more. My favorite part would have to be how complete the world building was. Overall I gave it a 2 of 4, with hope that the later books are more rounded.

" We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" By Matthew Tysz is a 3 out of 4 for me. I like fantasy genre's such as this one. I could picture the words and imagine it. The only problem was remembering the characters but overall I really enjoyed this book and I would recommended it my friends and family.

read this novel and I rated it 4 out of 4 stars. It proves that you don't need to reinvent the wheel to write an interesting saga as this is a classic form of fantasy with a medieval flavor. I loved the characters as Matthew Tysz gives a lot of details about their actions, moods, feelings with a great developments. Even minor characters are very much alive. It made me want to go on with its sequels.

I enjoyed reading this book very much, in fact I rated it 4 out of 4 stars. I was completely lost in the land of Voulhire as the author took me on an adventurous ride through the pages of this book. Kudos to the author for a job well done.

mariana90 wrote: 08 Oct 2020, 16:20 I gave this book only 1 star: the characters are not interesting enough and there’s not enough plot to keep the reader invested. It reads like a first draft of a possibly promising story. The author needs to correct the various grammatical mistakes and to flesh out a stronger plot. In other words, he needs to rewrite.
Thank goodness I'm not the only one who felt this way. I chose this book to review because there were so many enthusiastic reviews and because I love high fantasy, but I was incredibly disappointed from the moment I started reading. The magic system lacked logic, there were so few female characters that the lack of depth of the few women portrayed was impossible to ignore, and I really struggled to forgive some poor choices regarding the attitudes toward sexual orientation. I gave this book one star as well.

This series is remarkable. For a fantasy it felt realistic and relatable, save for Meldorath, magic and what not. But as far as societal relations, it was very realistic. I gave it 4 stars because it was perfect in every way.

I rated it four stars. It would be the second book of Matthew Tysz's series that I've read. I gave it a full rating because I was carried along smoothly throughout the book. I didn't feel like it was too fast and the events didn't feel like they'd sprung a surprise on me. There are twists and turns nevertheless, but they just made the book irresistible and unable to drop till I finished it.
The character development was quite good. It was a good book and I'll love to read more like it.

For a first instalment, the book was a perfect start. I gave it the full rating as I enjoyed it thoroughly. I am also puzzled as to how Matthew Tysz could handle so many characters and different settings without losing the plot. I mean, writing the review wasn't a funny experience because you don't even know what to say and what to leave out. The author is a genius.

It's not my favorite among the series, but Matthew Tysz's storytelling is superb. I really enjoyed the book, an I think the plot is a unique one, and he couldn't have set it a better way.

I enjoyed reading the book and gave it full points! I could not put it down as it really captivated me. I liked the storyline. In fact, I enjoyed it. What I somewhat disliked was the limited roles played by women in the book. They featured here and there but not significantly. I would definitely recommend it.

I am not a fan of sci-fi but this book drew me deeper and deeper into the story making me feel as if I was experiencing everything I was reading. As much as the book was based on fantasy, it relates to some of the current issues we face as the world- power and greed- which makes it relevant to our daily struggles. Without any reservations, I would give this book a 4 out 4 star rating.

I rated this book 3 out of 4 stars. It felt a little anachronistic in places, with modern language and references in a clearly medieval setting.

Did anyone else also feel a little uncertain about the end: was Hillport destroyed at least partially, or was it all just magic and mind games?

I read this book, and rated it book a four out of four stars; the characters were well developed coupled with Mr. Tysz's ability to create a new world--so dynamic and real. I also loved the humor he infused in this riveting book. This is a wonderful book I can recommend.
