190% proof and 95% ABV .... sure you'd have no idea whether you were sitting or standing after that, never mind whether or not you were miserable .... you'd be in orbit somewhere out there, I would anyway for sure.

Sorry, Geneen, but us real computer geeks will have little sympathy. We hate Apple because they have devised "closed" systems where we can't create our own programs, apps, or scripts. It is all very good for Apple profits, but not too good for the world. We call Apple fans iG*ys or iWh*r*s or even worse!Geneen Karstens wrote:... Ooops! Sorry, dear. Your remark made me take a look at myself. After so long despising the, "Politically Correct", I must take care not to become one of them!Geneen Karstens wrote:... To me an apple is something to eat..so please don't call me a iWh*r* cause I'm just ignorant of the computer politics.

We geeks fight so hard against big computer firms who try to "lock in" customers by making their products incompatible, that we risk losing our own sense of proportion.
Nietzsche: “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster ... for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”
Blake: "The iron hand crush'd the Tyrant's head, And became a Tyrant in his stead."
Red Dwarf (Rimmer): "You always become the thing you hate the most."
But who was it who first said, "You become what you hate"? Does anybody know?

@ Coldfire, thats an old story. These companies coming out with products that only work on their systems. at one time they even made phonograph records that would only play on that companys phonograph. Edison, Pathe, and a few others were famous for that. Nowdays its a lot more complicated than that, all a person can do is keep your back to the wall and try to get screwed as little as possible.

Well, I never knew about that! Thanks, Bighuey. That was worth learning.Bighuey wrote:@ Coldfire, thats an old story... Edison, Pathe, and a few others were famous for that...

But as to what made me miserable today?... I can't talk about it now. It is too bad. I thought that it would leave me trembling and shaking. Except that I've just looked at my hands, and they aren't shaking. They ought to be. Perhaps my hands are too stupid to recognize a calamity when it happens!

This hasent exactly made me miserable, but Im trying out a new internet service. So far it sucks. My service is limited, I cant download much of anything or even watch videos or it will use up all my time for the month. Im only allowed 5 gigs a month. when thats used up they shut me down. But its fast, never gets bogged down at high volume times, kids doing schoolwork, businesses sending their daily stuff to Mexico City, that sort of thing. This new one is unlimited, but its slow, slow, slow. My neighbor has it and Im trying it out on his system. He downloads all kinds of movies and things for his business but he said he can only do it in the middle of the night. I know hardly anything about computers, he said it depends on the internet speed. His is 1 gig, and my limited system is 5 gigs.I guess 5 gigs is very fast. Its half the price Im paying per month for mine, but I dont know if the middle of the night service would be worth it or not. Maybe later if they upgrade it, I may get it. I hope so, Telcel needs a little competition.

Thanks, Bighuey! I really appreciate your kind words of sympathy.Bighuey wrote: Wow, Coldfire. Sounds like some bad stuff. Hope you get it worked out OK.
When I download from sites in the US, I find downloads go 50x faster when my local time in the UK is about 6-8 a.m. Most Americans are asleep and not using the internet, and the UK generally hasn't woken up enough to go on the net.Bighuey wrote: ... he can only do it in the middle of the night...
