I know very little about the time when Korea was struggling to break free from Japanese rule, and I love historical fiction novels, so I may just have to try this one.

I am interested to read more about the political turmoil and social disparities that were prevalent throughout this section of Korean history. It's nice to hear that the author was able to tell the story through an eloquent use of stimulating prose, despite some of the narrative concerns. Sounds like an interesting novel! Too bad the narration was a little inconsistent.

Kim Embon seems to be a very interesting character. I am looking forward to reading this novel to find out how his interactions with interesting groups will change his perspectives about Korea and what his behavior and actions will be afterwards.

While learning and immersing into early 1900s Korean history and culture, this historical fiction novel questions the ideology of freedom. I look forward to reading this book. Great review!

Good review. I love historical fictions that can give you a look good look into the turmoil that people had to suffer. Even though there were some issues I think I’ll give it a try.

I like a good historical fiction novel. I’m not well versed on Korean history and their conflicts with Japan. I think this would be a good one to try even though the POV shifts and causes distractions. It’s interesting the review mentions the story weaves in the details and isn’t fast paced. These details are obviously important or the narrative wouldn’t be an accurate account of the history involved.

I was hooked on this book from the opening pages, and I look forward to finishing it and learning more about Korean history. Given the topic, I was surprised by the brevity of this read. The book seems to be more of a retelling of historical events with a fictional twist. History is not my favorite, so I will be passing on this one. However, there does seem to be a lot of action and intrigue involved based on the sample. Congrats to the author on BOTD!
