I used to practice in the basement, but our housecat would soon show up in the basement, climb into my lap, and try to bat the flute away from my mouth. I like to pretend that my musical ability was so fantastic, or that she was jealous and wanted my attention because I was so great, or that it had some fantastic, magical meaning, but really, I think that it hurt her ears, and since I'm apparently such a softie, she figured she could make me stop. It worked. I might still remember how to play.

When I was learning to play the flute, my cat would get up and leave the room when I started practicing. One day, I noticed she didn’t leave. I thought I was getting the hang of it, and she confirmed it. Sadly, my cat has passed away, and I no longer have my flute. I wouldn’t mind taking it up again, though.

I liked playing, it was fun and I sometimes wonder how much I would remember after years have gone by!
