In this coming-of-age young adult novel, Lea is forced to spend the summer with an aunt because her parents are separating. This story teaches making the best of a situation you have no control over and dealing with loneliness. Congratulations to the author for being chosen as BOTD. Great review! Thanks to the reviewer for your excellent work.

Thanks for a great review. I look forward to reading more of this story. It seems appropriate for young adults, and I think I will encourage my granddaughter to read the book. She is just the right age and close to Lea's age.

The first thing that got my attention as it does with all books I read is that it started out strong with great descriptions of what Lea was seeing, feeling, thinking and doing. There was also a touch of a little suspense there with her being in the boat, I thought at first she was stranded at sea or something to that affect.

The next thing I noticed is that this will be an easy read, one you can relax with and likely even relate to the changes happening in Lea’s life. From the few pages we were asked to read it seems like it would be a good and appropriate book for kids and even teens going through divorce and having to go stay with a family member while the parents sort all of the other out. Some children take to that change well while others don’t and it can be helpful to talk to or read about another child going through similar life changes. Even with the rebellious haircut Lea decided to get, a lot of us have definitely been there!

I would love to read the entire book and see how Lea finds herself coping at the end of this transition. I would also recommend this one to family, friends and my own children. I enjoyed and appreciated the fact that it was simple, well written, personable, relatable, and potentially helpful to kids with divorced or separated parents. It was clean and appropriate for even the younger aged children to read.

Overall I enjoyed it and will very likely get it to finish reading!

This sounds like a fantastic book. It has so much going on - family drama, growing pains, and even ghosts. I am hoping that even though it is a middle reader, it will still be a fun read for adults as well. Thanks for the review.

Sounds like a great story that younger audiences could learn from and find relatable. I don't normally read books like this one but if I have the chance I might give it a try.

Teenagers would easily relate to Lea's story. Growing up is part of life but the transition can be difficult. It's nice this book shares how to ease the process.

I like that the book aims at helping the transition from child to adulthood. This is brought out in the form of a lovely, mysterious, and a bit of history. Congratulations on the BOTD.

Interesting review. I'm already in love with the book. Oh Lea, I feel for her. But then, I can wait to read SandPeole to find out for myself, the many questions building up in my head. Thank you for an absolute interesting review.

The Official Review was very well done, and the cover quite nice. If I were looking for a book for middle school children, this one would have caught my eye. But since there are no such children in my life right now, well, I won't be reading it. However, I most liked the author's ability to create realistic characters. I felt that I knew each of them fairly well after reading the selection. Congratulations to Ms. Kerr on receiving BOTD honors.
