This is a delightful story of a young 12 year old Lea. Lea's character is very easy to relate to. She has to deal with the pain of separation from her family and her friend Laura for the summer. The book mixed with a bit of history, mystery and ghost sightings would widely appeal to a large audience. Congrats on BOTD!!

I like the fact that the focus is on Lea and her transition, not on her parents. The fact that it encourages growth is incredible as well. Thanks for the fantastic review.

This review has been well-written and it makes the book seem so enjoyable and informative at the same time. The story line on Lea's parents separation and her transformation thereafter seems interesting. This is a book I would definitely love to read.

I was captivated reading the first few pages of the novel. I was engrossed in the story I wished I wasn't reading the first sampled pages.
Your review has summarised the novel, and I can quite say from your review, this is a novel worth reading. Another novel to save in my shelf for future purchase.

I think a lot of people can relate to what Lea goes through in this book. Especially at her age, major changes like divorce and moving away from where you grew up can really make it feel as though your whole life has been uprooted.

This book is essentially the coming-of-age story of Lea McKinney. I already like the impending evolution of her relationship with her aunt even though I haven't read a page of this book. Sounds like a good enough story to keep me interested.

It’s nice to see a coming-of-age story that involves the main character’s parents divorcing but keeps the focus on the main character’s growth rather than the parents’ relationship. Young readers need and will want to see that there is more that goes on with children in that situation than just watching their parents like hawks and try to force them back together. Thank you for the helpful review.

This seems like a delightful book for young readers who are ready to leave childhood behind. The author did a great job at making Lea relateable and putting her in teachable situations that will entertain readers. I'm intrigued by her many adventures, especially visiting the abandoned mansion and exploring on the ship. Thanks for the great review!

I love such novels. They offer an introspective view of the world surrounding the protagonist, in which case happens to be a Lea Mckinney. Congrats BOTD.

SandPeople: An Across Time Mystery by Cheryl Kerr is a coming-of-age story with a bit of history, a sense of mystery, and a few ghost sightings. The content is well-written and suitable for upper middle-grade readers ages eight to fourteen.

The story does not focus on Lea's parents and whether they will get back together; instead, the focus is on Lea and her transformation over the summer. It presents a depiction of Lea working through her differences and getting to know her aunt. I think these situations are helpful because they reveal the process of learning from one's mistakes and making the best of a situation that was not a result of personal choice but of parental preferences. The author also wove in a bit of historical fiction that was both educational and exciting. I appreciated how well Kerr blended the historical elements into the story without making it dry and boring.

An interesting coming of age story written for young teens. The official review is very good.
