Young Adult Book Discussion 2021

This month we are focusing our attention to books that are considered young adult! Get your teenage self ready and choose a book that you think will make you feel good

Young adult:

geared towards people from ages 13-18
can woven in with other genres easily
it's meant to help transition readers from children's books to adult books
protagonists are usually teenagers (13-19 years old)
any romance is more innocent than those found in adult novels

Some guiding questions:

Share what you read and a little about its synopsis.
Were there other genres tied into the text? If so, which ones?
Share something you enjoyed in the text and something you thought could be better.
Would you recommend this book? Why or why not?

I'm thinking of reading Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas. Has anyone ever read this book? I read The Hate U Give and loved it. I'm hoping this will be just as enjoyable.

Some books on my list are: The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone by Jaclyn Moriarty, Zoe Rosenthal Is Not Lawful Good by Nancy Werlin, A Curse of Roses by Diana Pinguicha, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, The Shadow in the Glass by J.J.A. Harwood (a new spin on Cinderella), Mrs. Perivale and the Blue Fire Crystal by Dash Hoffman, Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, Seraphina by Rachel Hartma, Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley, The House at the Edge of Magic by Amy Sparkes.

I've just finished The Fisherman and his Foundlings by Phillip Leighton-Daly. It is a book about an old widower who fishes for a living and takes in a mermaid to care for. It was quite interesting to read it, especially with its heavy vocabulary. However, I was sad to see that the old man dies in the end.

That sounds like an interesting read. Glad you enjoyed it! It's bad that the fisherman doesn't make it in the end, though.
