Amnesia in no way justifies his failure as a husband, father, and architect, as it all happened before his accident. Making excuses for his past actions would just tell us how irresponsible the character is. So amnesia can affect his future actions not past.

I think his amnesia was real. I do think he had some mental health issues on top of the amnesia which may have contributed to him keeping it to himself.

I agree ! He was so hurt or felt a deep shame and regret that his mind wanted to delete everything

John's amnesia is real. But I believe its not from the accident but rather the stress he faced as failure in certain area of his life.

Well, that's interesting. Can you elaborate more? Most cases of amnesia I know are direct results of physical injuries. When you said that it may not have been from the accident, were you referring to the psychological problems John has?

It's real. This is because it has been indicated that he was in blackout for three and a half years, so mental damage or disorder is highly possible.

I am convinced that John's amnesia is real; we saw him struggle to come to grips with his emotions in the storyline, particularly since he thought he had failed as a husband and provider. People struggle to cope with such adversity, which eventually leads to mental illness. Of course, the accident exacerbated his problems, but he had long been suffering from underlying concerns.

I BELIEVE that his amnesia was very genuine. this is because along the storyline were shown his struggles with emotions that seem real it'd be unfair to term it fake.

I think it is real because for him to successfully fake an amnesia even at work would be quite challenging. It could be that he had dissociative amnesia that was triggered by the stresses of the failures he faced in life, similar to how people may have repressed memories from a bad childhood.

The idea of amnesia being fake has better character and plot intrigue and I wished our author had of actively pursued that. Yet the facts that were provided point towards real.

The accident seemed to be a cause of the amnesia. I don’t believe he could have faked it!!! The damage he incurred had a big effect on his mentality.

I'm not sure whether his amnesia was genuine or a hoax. It would be difficult to pretend you didn't have any memories if this is actually true and not just an act (like in Alias Grace).

I believe his amnesia was real, because I don't think anyone can fake such a condition. It would be really difficult keeping up with the acts.

It's kind of hard to believe that he takes an amnesia just to get escape his reality as a failed husband.

I believe that his amnesia was pretty real.

Many sad moments of John's life coupled with the accident could be overwhelming for the mind to take thereby tricking the brain Into a defensive mode of forgetfulness.
John could wish to have forgotten most of the bad traumatic experiences and the brain would take the clue from there. I don't feel he's faking it, I think it is real and sad. Everything still comes down to his mental state before and after the accident. How long can he fake that?
