Anyone ever read James Clavell's Shogun?

I've heard that it's very good. However, it's also very long and I want to make sure that it is worth it.

Ooo! This is my favourite book! My only warning is that some people hate the style it is written in, Something about Clavell being a script writer beforehand, or the likes, but the style is quite, well, different. However, if the story is good enough to get into, surely the style oughn't not to be a bother? Anyway, I think it is absolutely fantastic, the characters most of all, and I've learnt a lot from it. It inspired me to learn Japanese, which I've been now doing for over a year. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :0

In addition to Shogun, I've also read TaiPan, Noble House and Gai-Jin. They're all wonderful books, though my favourite is Shogun. If you like immersing yourself in a book, and learning about the culture of the time, then go for it. If you're not into pages of descriptive passages, then give it a miss. But for my money, they were amazing.

I like historical fiction, and I really enjoyed this book. It felt authentic and the characters were interesting and engaging. The plot is full of intrigue and hopelessly honor bound feudal warlords. Great stuff.
