Review of The Tempting Alaskan Doctor
A celebrity news reporter, Helena Parker, accepts an offer to create a documentary series featuring various doctors all over the world. Her first project takes her to a remote town in Alaska where she has to meet a shy, handsome doctor, Mark Roethlisberger. The show turns out to be a success, and Helena finds her career soaring once again. However, Helena and Mark are in love, and due to their commitments, it is going to be difficult to take their relationship to the next level. Can Helena give up the limelight in exchange for a life with Mark in Alaska? Can Mark quit his job as a doctor in a remote Alaskan village and be with Helena in LA? Is it possible for the two of them to be together when their careers are worlds apart?
I haven’t read a light, romance novel in a while, and The Tempting Alaskan Doctor by Denise Gwen reminded me of the love I had for romance books once again. One might have the impression that this is an erotic novel, but there aren’t a lot of explicit scenes in the book. In the beginning, much of the reason why the main characters were drawn to each other was due to physical attraction, but further in the story, I saw that there was more it to than that. Helena and Mark have shared emotional traumas, regrets, and past mistakes that made them feel more attached to each other.
I liked how the story explored the depth of the characters. There are adequate background stories for the main characters, making them feel more human and three-dimensional. It is interesting to see, for instance, that beneath Mark’s reserved exterior is an empathetic, emotionally vulnerable soul who deeply cares and willingly protects the people he loves.
The author’s writing was also excellent for this book. The story was set against the backdrop of this beautiful land of Alaska, which was so nice to imagine due to the author’s vivid descriptions. The dialogue exchange was also quite enjoyable, especially between the two main characters. I have not found a single error, so I would say that the book was professionally edited. I also didn’t have anything to dislike about the book.
I rate this novel 4 out of 4 stars for its excellent writing and well-developed characters. This story is perfect for anyone who’s looking for a romance novel with endearing characters. There are about two hundred pages only, so if you’re looking for a quick read, this book is the one for you.
