The feminist in me absolutely abhorred the fact that the decisions about Lily's life were out of her hands and the rape and beating stories were a bit hard to swallow but the story was interesting and the story is a perfect example of how colour blind love trully is.

How I wish the relationship between Liky and James was cordial; it would have made the storyline more interesting. The author's writing style was good. I recommend it to lovers of romance books because they will find it interesting.

I disliked the book overall. I didn't enjoy the author's writing style, I disliked James' and Lily's relationship, and I really disliked the ending. I usually enjoy historical fiction and some romance, but it just didn't work for me in this book.

I really loved the majority of this book. However, I feel that the romance between Lily and James was forced. I didn’t like James’ character or decisions regarding Lily’a future. However, Lily’s story is inspiring and well-written.

The story is a better one about the life of a slave but the beating and rape stories were a bit extreme..... I recommend it for romance books lovers

I loved the writing and imagery of this book. I could see every scene in my mind's eye and felt like I knew the characters. I also love the fact that it doesn't follow the standard romance plot. There are enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes and trying to figure out the next intrigue.

I actually enjoyed reading this book. I gave this book a 4 out of 4-star rating. The actual theme of this plot is quite historical . Lily and James fall in love and their romance is quite simple but intriguing. One thing that I did not like is the open ending, maybe there is a next volume coming up. great for romance lovers.

I love this book and the intention of the author is almost like my behaviour. The characters and the location are expressed in very good description.

Lily's story is a very inspiring one and I totally love it. I don't know I actually have a second opinion on James and I think there romance is a no for me

The book speaks quite openly about one of the most widespread social problems that have existed for centuries. I liked the vulnerable rawness of Lily's character juxtaposed with the commanding mannerisms of James'. The author has explored the historical romance genre very well, creating a refreshingly real story of love and hatred, passion and lust, and of course of wrong and right.

Présentation de l'éditeur
At the age of ten, Lily is forcefully torn from her mother's arms and sold at a Negro auction by her master, a man that Lily learns that day is her very own father. Seeking solace from such devastation, Lily secretly begins teaching herself to play her new master's piano: an instrument that she is forbidden from touching. Lily becomes an extraordinary pianist and gets away with secretly playing for fourteen years until the master's son, James, discovers her deceit. The "punishment" that James gives Lily starts her on an unprecedented journey that dramatically alters her life and influences the lives of thousands, including a man with great power. Lily's groundbreaking journey also unveils the secret altruistic love of a particular man who has been forbidden from expressing his love to her for years. But the question remains whether or not the strength of his love will be powerful enough to free Lily from the shackles of slavery and protect her dreams and her life while on her turbulent Journey to Winter Garden.

I loved the book. I would rate it 4 out of 4. The author was able to describe the characters, scenery, feelings, and pretty much everything in a way that made me disconnect from reality and be one with the book.

What I like the most about this book is the suspense. The implication is that I never wanted to keep the book down; I was literally glued to its pages. However, I am not convinced about the love story; this is why I am retracting a star from it. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

I think books with unpredictable plot are amazing, especially if it is historical. I am a fan.
