Lilly of the Mountains by Daniel L. Yoder is an exciting and educative book. It is a romance fiction novel with a touch of Christianity and history. It talks a great deal about forgiveness, trust, abuse, hatred, death, and love. It depicts the life of a young woman and what she went through.

Lilly lost her mother at a very tender age. Her father felt heartbroken and sad. He could not take care of little Lilly after his wife's death. He was having a hard time looking for a job.

When presented with the sum of six hundred and fifty dollars and with a promise to take good care of Lilly, he sold Lilly to Levi, a cruel man who seized his properties after he lost his job. Lilly endured in her marriage to Levi for seven years. He defrauded people of their money and properties and made life a living hell for many. The whole town was happy when Levi was involved in an unfortunate event. Lilly is left with her resolve to correct the wrongs done by Levi. Was she able to do this?

This book has a lot of positive aspects. The characters used in this book were developed correctly. It paved the way for realistic relations within this book. I enjoyed Lily's character development especially. In the end, she learned how to use a gun to protect herself. She also didn’t need anybody’s help to get back on her feet. I love the element of surprise in this book; I couldn't even predict so many things. For instance, after what happened to Levi, I believed I already knew what happened; however, I was surprised by the turn of events when Oliver stepped in. I was fascinated by this. I love the way forgiveness, love, and trust were portrayed in this book. I admitted that Lilly had a very forgiving nature. Also, Lilly fought for Andrew when he was making the wrong choice. She brought him back, not minding if it was risky. Lilly was a compassionate woman. Even after all she went through, she stretched forth her hands of help to all those who needed it. I felt some emotional connection with the protagonist, Lilly, in this book. I was able to feel how she felt. I felt sad when she had to pay for the actions of others.

In addition to these, the language used in this book was relatively easy to understand; I didn’t have a hard time understanding it. I also learned some new words from this book, like Hearse, Nickel, Uncluttered, Scrooge, Cockamamie, Subterranean, Traipsing, Brusquely, Kaleidoscope, and so on.

This book has just one negative aspect. I wouldn’t say I got the ending I was yearning for. Although this may not matter to many readers, I felt the author left me hanging. I would have loved to know if some people found their way back to their lovers.

Although I found some errors in this book, I was not distracted by them. This shows that this book was professionally edited. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not give this book a lower rating because the negative aspect I stated above did not affect the overall satisfaction I had with this book.

I recommend this book to lovers of romance fiction. Christians would also have a fantastic time reading this book. People who love to read books with a touch of historical fiction would find this book appealing. If you don't believe in the supernatural, then I would advise that you don’t read this book.

This this a very good review, I really had a feel of what's going on in the story and talks about sensitive matters. Honestly speaking, I can't even imagine the things Lilly had to go through.

Thank you for the great elaborate review!
