As a child, Nikoletta watched as her parent's marriage imploded suddenly, and understood from a young age that people not meant to be together, simply couldn't be together; so when she begins to develop feelings for Mark, a handsome, well-known lady's man, she is hesitant to commit until she is certain of her feelings and his. Over the following years, this game would continue, the pull between Mark and Nikoletta growing stronger, but never quite strong enough to defy their doubts, leading to many detrimental choices along the way, until the two are forced to sit down and simply say the words to each other.

Written by Thea Nikitis, this lovely novella follows two characters who unwittingly foil their happiness at every turn. Though it initially comes off as clichéd, playing into the "bad boy" and "inexperienced geek" tropes for a bit, this book quickly shaped into something unique and mature, and entirely worth the read.

Unfortunately, however, Unspoken Words suffers a fatal flaw, and willing readers must possess incredible patience to be able to successfully navigate through the grammatical mess that is this book. From the state of the writing, one could guess that English is not the author's first language, and though the story comes across somehow, the text seems to be an extremely rough translation that did not undergo any subsequent editing. It's quite shocking that this was even published in the first place.

Still, in spite of this great obstacle, this book is one of the most plausible and realistic romance novels I've ever read — one in which characters are not completely reactionary, and act in ways that would make sense outside the realm of fiction.

The pacing was also well-executed, and though this is a short book, the reader never feels rushed. The author expertly compressed several years into a few chapters, with emphasis on only key moments. This same principle was also applied to characters, with a clear division between primary and secondary players.

My rating of this book is 2 out of 4 stars. Unspoken Words has a successful plot and interesting characters, but the writing lacks far behind the quality of the story. A lot of work is still needed before this is ready to be released, and currently, I would only recommend this book to the rare reader who wouldn't mind a lot of distracting errors.

This book contains some sexual references but should be suitable for readers over the age of 16.

Enjoy.

Many people in relationships would identify with 'unspoken words': as many relationships end or don't work due to poor communication, wrong perceptions and the inability or unwillingness to open up and express true feelings.
