Anyone else get motion sick when reading in a car?

I get it really badly! I travel places by bus and the second the bus pulls away I have to put my book down. Sometimes holding it at eye level (instead of looking down) helps and I even have to do this with my phone while texting in a bus/car.
Apart from that I have no remedy....maybe getting a book-on-tape thing?

OK then. I did try the bands on the cruise ship and they worked! Forgot about that. I will dig them out and try them in the car next time. Thanks.

I get motion sickness in a car whether I'm reading or not, but I get it even more so when I'm reading. I often take my old kindle that will read to me so that way I can listen to it in the car and still not lose my page on my devices. Or I'll listen to an audio book. I'd love to be able to spend all the time I'm just sitting in the car reading, but it just gives me the worst headaches.

Absolutely! I can't even look down at my GPS for too long without feeling sick. I wonder if this is just a curse placed upon those who like to read in such a technological setting.

I read somewhere once that if you are able to block your vision outside while you are reading in the car its supposed to help. I have put a pillow against the window on long car drives and that seems to allow me to read without getting sick

Occasionally I can read in the car. I find that looking up frequently helps as well as wearing my glasses

I do, which is why I refrain from reading while I'm in the car. I usually listen to music instead. Audionbook is a great option, I will definitely look into it!

Yeah, defo! I can't read at all in the car. For some reason can read on a train though with no problem!

I do too! But i don't feell nauseas until 30 min and then it hits with a wave. I found it out the hard way, though.

i don't get motion sickness while reading but alot of people I know do. Im glad I don't because if I'm not driving it is a lot more fun then just staring out of the window.

People get sick when they read and drive because it confuses the brain. The brain needs to see that you're moving to process it. That's why people who are travel sick feel better in the front because your brain can process it better if you are looking in the direction you are going rather than looking out of the side.

I sometimes get sick from reading in the car. I feel the compulsion to do it anyway. My friends and family think I'm into self torture because of it. After so many trips across state lines and countless hours of dry heaving, headaches, and not so near misses involving little paper bags and my husbands' freshly detailed car interiors, the situation needed to be re-evaluated. Here's what I came up with. Hydrate. It is important to make sure that you drink plenty of water during the drive. Not soda, or any other super sugary drinks, unless of course you want a raging headache as well as a new tie dyed wardrobe. Sunglasses. Reduces the glare on the reader and the strain on the brain. Crackers and chewing gum. A base for your stomach (crackers), minty goodness in close quarters (gum). Air vents. Point them in your general direction. Recline the seat. If you can take off your shoes, you're not going anywhere. If all else fails, get a selection of books on your iPod, MP3, whatever sit back and chill. I hope this was helpful
