Can e-books replace paperbacks?

I always enjoy browsing charity shops or second hand book shops for books, then giving the books back to charity when I have finished with them. I love reading on my kindle, but I would definitely miss browsing through paper books.

I think that e-readers are so convenient and you can download books in a minute or less but I don't think that they can replace the actual book. While I do read many books on my e-reader, I am still one of those people who enjoys the standard physical copy of my favorite book. Not to mention, I do love the smell of new books!!

e-books may be convenient but they will never change paperback books. They will forever be around as written word.

As much as I see the benefits of e-books, for me nothing will ever replace a real book!
Nothing beats buying a second hand book that is tattered and clearly read a million times, its smell bringing wave after wave of nostalgia with every turn of the page and when finished, displayed on a bookcase like a trophy to share with your friends.
My parents have purchased a Kindle or some kind of device like that and are constantly trying to persuade me to joining the electronic community but I shall resist! Even though they're compact, cheap (in the long run) and can contain thousands of books, I don;t think I could live with myself if I put down a real book for an electronic copy.

I own both electronic readers for easy reading at night, or while being out some place where you know you'll needing a book to pass the time. This comes in handy when you have a cover of a book you don't need everyone seeing, and knowing your reading it. But I still buy books in paperback format, I love to get them signed, I love the smell of the pages, the way the pages feel. I especially love leaving little sticky notes for myself throughout the book, it's much easier for me than the note taking in the e-readers. Another downside to e-readers is not knowing the exact page you are on. I like using quotes, and referring it to a certain page number, but saying that your on page 385 in a 300 page book just makes no sense. Does anyone else know what I mean?

The people who really love to read, and really love books, will never want to NOT have physical books. I think the e-readers are nice as an addition, but won't really ever replace real books.

I absolutely love my Kindle. It's so quick and easy to search for a book and then download it within minutes! In this digital age, e-readers have quickly soared in popularity, but nothing beats the feeling of holding a hardback/paperback book. While e-readers will continue to develop and progress to meet the needs of an ever-changing society, they will never fully replace the traditional format of ink and paper.

I honestly hope that ebooks never replace a good, leather bound book, it's crisp pages making the sounds of accomplishment apparent with every turn. Then again, I love my nook e-reader. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. I never see ebooks replacing them, however.

It really depends on how you look at it. To be perfectly honest, a solid 3D book is the best for me.

I still do not find an ebook as cosy as a paper book. However given the way mankind is cutting away trees, paper books may disappear in 30 years, just to save the planet earth.

I love my kindle when traveling, doctors office waiting room, etc. But an e-reader will never totally replace the feel of a good book, turning a page to see what happens next!

I think they will eventually but we're talking decades and decades, possibly centuries. Eventually we simply will not have the natural resources to keep making paper or the room to store them in. As today's children grow up and have children, we will slowly have a society that is so much more used to electronic products and won't think anything of replacing books with e-books.

I personally love the feeling of holding a hard copy in my hands. The smell, the rustic sound of the flip of a page and the brush of the hand against the coarse surface provide a uniquely pleasurable experience which can never be replicated by technology or, in other words, an ebook. Even after having said this, I do read ebooks as I can read them peacefully while I'm working in office and nobody would even realize it!

I have always loved the thrill of going to a bookstore and buying a novel, however with the increasing amount of bookstores closing and the distance it takes to drive to the reaming bookstores it seems the thrill is gone. I am an avid reader and I love the feel of a book in my hands however with the new age of technology I find myself more and more downloading a new book at one am rather then going online and placing an order from a top bookstore. I love the convenience of the nooks, ipads, kindles and how easily assessable it is to began reading a new book all hours of the night. The e-books allow me as a college student to carry all my textbooks in one electronic, no more wondering if I left my copy of Romeo and Juliet at home for now I always have my whole collection of my books at my finger tips. I love the e-books and feel they are quickly replacing the paperback books of today.
