The storms and challenges in life are certain and endless but we must cultivate perserverance and resilience if we are to succeed.

I think Brandy is the perfect example, that you don't have to be what you were born into. I liked the fact that Brandy wasn't proud of her past and wanted to make amends. She wanted a better life, and I find that admirable. Her uncle is a good example of making amends too. Just like Brandy, he wasn't proud of the things he helped with and tried to correct those mistakes. No matter what mistakes we make, forgiveness is not impossible. We just need to learn from our mistakes and strive not to make them again.

The eastern philosophy in the book, expressed by Zhiang in his training, was an important lesson. Rage, anger, and instant reaction to a situation do not usually yield the hoped-for conquest. Instead, patience, balance, lots and lots of training, and understanding the entire situation instead of only one aspect are what earn victories.

This book taught me that challenges and problems must come up, but determination and patience will get you far in life.

Good revenge is one lesson that we can get from this book. After the death of Brandy’s parents, she did all her best to retribute. It’s something that made this book powerful.

A good lesson I picked up from this book, is to always put things in perspective. I mean we had Brandy, a girl, in the midst of pirates, yet she was doing the right thing. If you don't know how to look at things in perspective, you would judge too quickly.

I learned from this book that I should never say never. The Brandy is the character that does it. He never gives up and is always trying to create something new. This is an unusual example and I have learned not to be afraid to start over!

One great lesson I learnt from this book especially from the character, Brandy, is persistence and doggedness would take you to your desired height in life. Brandy exhibited that in this book.

This is a theme that needs to be used a lot more in fiction. Having a protagonist that will take charge to change her family’s legacy is perfect for a book like this.

I learned that life can change unexpectedly. Brandy lost her father and mother unexpectedly. And secrets she knew nothing of came to light. This can happen in real life.

In life we're bound to be faced with problems, but how we handle them really matters. I learnt from the book to be strong and determined. There are a lot of lessons to learn from Brandy.

A big lesson that is talked about here is the topic of perseverance, and to stay strong no matter what life throws at you
