Re: Does Page Count Affect Your Decision To Read A Book Or N

It does but depending on the topic. If it's a topic or genre that I find interesting, I'm more likely to read something with a higher page or word count. If its focus is something that I like but don't find completely fascinating, I might opt to find a book of shorter length. I expect shorter length to be more concise with less romantic language.

I don't read many short stories, they usually only leave me wanting more. If they're well written, they can make their point concisely and I'm happy but that isn't typically the case.

For me it used to. I never wanted to get a book that was real thick. That was before I read Stephen King's 11/22/63. I really wanted to read that no matter how big it was. Now, it doesn't effect me.

Whenever I check out an ebook that looks like it's supposed to be a novel I look at page count. If it's got 100 or less then it usually means it's not worth my time or money. It's wonderful how easy it is to self-publish these days, but a lot of writers are cutting corners and writing just enough to slap something on Amazon for .99 and make a few bucks. It's just not great literature.

There are times when the page count affects my decision to read a book or not. I choose a book based on the my schedule and when I select one, I try to determine how much downtime I'll have to read it. Especially if/when I am downloading a book from the library to my E reader. If it's a very long book and I don't have the reading time available in the allotted check out time, I'll choose a shorter book and save the longer one in my "wish list" for a vacation. If it's a long book that I really want to read right then, I'll buy the E-book so I can read it at my leisure.

Typically I don't choose to read short stories or very short books. My favorite books are very good long ones!

Nope. Though I am more inclined to books around 450-500 pages.

It doesn't really effect me,but if its long and boring then I'm not going to bother; and if its short and pointless then why read it

No it does not bother me but when I start reading it and i'm just not into it or it is real boring then I won't be able to finish it but no I think that with more pages that might just mean that the book is that much better. :D

It affects my decision to buy a book sometimes...you know what's annoying? Say a book is $25-$30 new hardcover, fascinating topic...then you leaf through it and there's about 50 pages of source notes, index and appendix gobbly gook...so at least a quarter of the book if not more is notes and credits.
I'd read it but not buy it unless I was going to use the notes to research on my own of course.

Yes it does. I have been wanting to read "The Fountainhead" and hear it is a great book. But, I look at all the pages and small print and it deters me.

For me the more pages in the book the better. Which drives my friends crazy but, I love it.

Page counts do not affect my decision on whether or not to read a book, but they do affect my decision on WHEN to read a book.
