It can never be for the sake of national interest to shoot at unarmed protesters marching for a justifiable course. That's plain inhumanity from the government.

No! It is not justified at all. I liked how the book brought awareness to this flaw. It needs to stop. The mindless and meaningless killings of people for selfish interest.

I think to the average civilian, "national interest" is a highly metaphorical and abstract term removed from the daily, real-life struggles of a country's people. The term also erroneously presents itself as objective and homogenous. In truth, 'national interest' usually only reflects a particular group of people with a certain outcome in mind, i.e. not arbitrary. We see this in the opening of this book where the government acts despite national protest. So I don't see how it can be used as justification.

I do not agree. I thinking the killings are met to scare those who are opposing and to be reminded of the who holds more power and right. The other thing may be anger and the unsaid emotions.

I don’t think arbitrary killing in the national interest is what is happening here, and in reality most of the time. The people protesting are exercising their right to free speech, while the police are their to protect and ensure nothing gets out of hand. But it is all on a knifes edge. As soon as one person thinks the other side has done something that is going to harm them, it escalates, and unfortunately ends in death on one side or the other - normally the side with the less effective weapons. Most of the time, no one from either side goes wanting to kill someone, but it is the reactive mass-mindset rather than individual review that enables this escalation. Steve showed in the last protest scene where Roxy was arrested that he was able to differentiate and not just follow the rest of the police when they saw a fellow officer fall to the ground.

Nothing like that can ever be justified. A nation is only as strong as its people. If it kills the people to protect its interests, then it will lose in the end.

Killing in the name of national interest is not justified. The life of people is important. Police are to protect the people not to be killing them. Killing people because of protest, national interest, religious beliefs, etc., is not justified.

It is not justifiable. any one that believes it is needs to check their humanity. Maybe it's broken. That is just so cruel.

It's definitely not justified. Why ki when you can arrest and prosecute. We have seem this too many times in different country. People come out to prot st peacefully. The government say these protesters are trying to distabilize the country. They send out security out fit who shoot on sight. It's ridiculous and wrong.

In the art of war, it is justified, sadly. The enemy is an enemy regardless of whether it is a civilian or a soldier. In my opinion, killing in the name of the national interest are not justified. If war is waged, only people who can properly defend themselves should be attacked.

Killing (or murdering) in the name of national interest is not justified. What happened to imprisoning people if you feel they committed a crime?

I believe this is something that still happens a lot nowadays. All the so-called killing for national interest started because of some selfish leaders' agenda. At the end of the day, it is innocent civilians that become the victim.

Killing, in the name of anything, will never be justified. Even in war, at the end of the day, we're all just people fighting against one another. However, a moral Gray area appears when the police have to make a decision to kill a person causing harm to another person. It is not justifiable but it's also not black and white. Like we saw when Steve had to shoot Norvell, he had a legal obligation to shoot him but not a moral one.

This is exactly the ills of totalitarianism that blurs ethical lines. Killing for the national interest—is death your only solution? Unacceptable.

I don't think it's justified, especially when the government tries to cover their actions up or try to produce a different story to make themselves look better.
