I have to admit I had a difficult time with Frankenstien. It is often mentioned in the same "breath" as Bram Stoker's Dracula, even though they have no similarities. At any rate, it does have more enduring qualities than Dracula. However, in conception, Frankenstien was never intended for publication. It was a contribution to the amusement of house party in Switzerland on a dark and stormy night long before the advent of TV or radio. From 1816,(?) it is rather early in the techniques of English fiction, and I think that is why I labored with it.SmileyC wrote:Frankenstien. Had to read it at college but just couldn't get in to it at all.

There are a few that I haven't got to grips with but they are more classics than anything else.

I forced myself to get almost halfway through before I actually starting enjoying the book an laughing.
It has a pulitzer, I have talked to people who said it changed their perspectives and was a great book, and I've seen it on book lists, but I just wasn't feeling it. I haven't read other works by eugenides so I'm not sure if its the author or the book. Anyone have an opinion?
Also, Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, but not by my accord!! My friend had it on his phone and after reading it to each other on a road trip we parted . I plan to finish it because the characters kick ass and the book is visually fun to read, humorous, and thought provoking.
